Nobody celebrates 0.2 seconds in normal life.

A traffic light changes…
Nobody cares.

A message arrives 0.2 seconds later…
Nobody notices.

But in swimming?

0.2 seconds can feel enormous.

It can be the difference between yesterday’s version of you and the swimmer you’ve been trying to become.

Weeks of training can hide inside one tiny number.

A cleaner turn.
A smoother stroke.
A better start.
One moment where everything finally connects.

And then you look at the clock…

0.2 seconds faster.

To everyone else, it’s almost nothing.

But you know what it took to find those 0.2 seconds.

That’s one of the beautiful things about swimming:

It teaches you that progress doesn’t have to be huge to mean everything. 🏊‍♂️

Sometimes the smallest number on the clock carries the biggest story.

What’s a swimming improvement that looked small to everyone else — but meant everything to you? 👇

🧠 Swimming Science #11

Why Do Swimmers Sometimes Feel Dizzy After Finishing a Hard Set?

Have you ever completed an intense swim set, stood up, and suddenly felt lightheaded or dizzy for a few seconds?

💡 It’s not always because you’re out of shape.

🔬 During hard swimming, your working muscles receive a much larger share of your blood flow. When you stop abruptly, the muscle pump that helps return blood to your heart becomes much less active. At the same time, standing up quickly allows gravity to pull more blood toward your legs.

This temporary drop in blood flow to the brain can make you feel dizzy or lightheaded for a few moments.

It becomes more likely when you:
🏊 Finish a very intense set and stop suddenly.
💧 Are dehydrated.
🥵 Train in a warm pool or environment.
⏱️ Stand up immediately after a long swim.

The good news?

✅ Finish your workout with an easy cool-down instead of stopping suddenly.
✅ Stand up gradually after resting at the wall.
✅ Stay well hydrated before, during, and after training.

🌊 Sometimes, dizziness after swimming isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s often your cardiovascular system adjusting to a sudden change in blood flow.

🧠 Swimming Science #13

Why Do Swimmers Sometimes Hear Their Heartbeat Loudly Underwater?

Have you ever been floating quietly in the pool and suddenly noticed that you could hear your own heartbeat?

💡 You’re not imagining it.

🔬 Sound travels about four times faster in water than in air. When your ears are submerged, external sounds become much quieter. At the same time, vibrations from your own body—especially your heartbeat and blood flow—travel efficiently through the tissues and bones of your head to your inner ear.

This makes internal sounds much more noticeable than they are on land.

You’re more likely to notice it when you:

🏊 Float quietly without moving.
🤿 Stay underwater for several seconds.
😌 Relax after a hard swim when your heart is still beating fast.
🔇 Swim in a calm, quiet pool.

The good news?

✅ Hearing your heartbeat underwater is usually completely normal.
✅ It simply means external sounds are reduced, making your body’s internal sounds easier to notice.
✅ If you hear a heartbeat-like sound only in one ear, especially outside the pool, or it persists with dizziness or hearing loss, it should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

🌊 Sometimes, the loudest sound in the pool isn’t around you… it’s the rhythm of your own body.

Behind every swimmer is someone who never stopped believing. 💙

The one who woke up before sunrise.
Packed the bag.
Waited through practice.
Cheered through every race.
Celebrated every personal best…
and loved them just as much after every tough one.

Swim parents don’t swim the laps.

But they’re part of every single one.

Because behind every confident swimmer is someone who quietly showed up—day after day, year after year.

And one day, when the swimming ends…

they won’t remember every time.

They’ll remember who was always there. 🩵🏊
