The rain heavily poured down right before class, so the dojo was fully expecting a quiet night but everyone went anyway.

A big thank you to all who came and trained in the Kumite Class tonight despite the heavy rain. Solid focus and great repetitions tonight. Respect to everyone who made the drive in the rain.

お疲れ様でした！押忍！

A TRUE DEFINITION OF KYOKUSHIN SPIRIT!
これぞ極真魂！

At the 15th All Japan Kyokushin Championships in 1983, Kancho Shokei Matsui faced off against Shihan Yasuhiro Shichinohe in a match that shows exactly what full-contact karate is all about.

Kancho Matsui was already dealing with broken ribs in his previous bout against Masaru Mitsukawa. With a spot at the 3rd World Tournament on the line, stepping down simply wasn't an option.

Instead of backing off or fighting defensively to protect his injury, Matsui pushed through the intense pain and kept throwing his signature high kicks. Relying purely on heart and adrenaline, he somehow managed to score a waza-ari against the heavy-hitting Shichinohe.

That score won him the fight, put him in the top eight, and secured his ticket to represent Japan on the world stage. Even decades later, watching him throw high kicks with broken ribs remains one of the most unreal displays of willpower in Kyokushin history.

A true representation of Osu No Seishin!

The video features Kancho Shokei Matsui leading a detailed instructional breakdown of basic Kyokushin karate kata, beginning with Taikyoku Sono Ichi.

Throughout the tutorial, he places strong emphasis on breath control from the lower abdomen during the initial ready stance, fluid hip rotation during turns, and keeping composure until the final bow.

Before their championship match, Shihan Kenji Yamaki and Shihan Hajime Kazumi were reminded by their coach, Shihan Tsuyoshi Hiroshige, that they were representing the 168 competitors who had already fought in the tournament.

Despite their senior-junior relationship, they were instructed to go all out, cast aside any thoughts of yielding to one another, and fight with everything they had to move the audience. Shihan Yamaki, making his third appearance at the world tournament, faced off against the younger Shihan Kazumi, who was competing on this global stage for the very first time.

Shihan Kenji Yamaki secured the victory, standing at the top of 71 countries to become the champion of the 6th World Open Karate Tournament.
