The Sports Academy proudly welcomes the PPRT Tadjimalela Pencak Silat team to UP Mindanao, headed by its founder, Coach Ian Christopher Calo, a former national athlete.

Sports Academy – Pencak Silat officially begins on 𝟎𝟓 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 (Saturday) at the DC-UP Sports Complex Training Gymnasium. Sessions will be held every Saturday, with the objective of equipping participants with the fundamentals and skills in 𝙏𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 (Sparring) and 𝙎𝙚𝙣𝙞 (Artistic) by 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔.

Training is open to participants of all ages!

Registration and assembly will begin at 12:30 PM, while training sessions will run from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

HIGHLIGHTS | In cooperation with the Department of Human Kinetics, the Davao City-UP Sports Complex Training Gymnasium had been the venue for sports events as part of the Kadayawan Festival 2026.

The series of events highlights Davao City’s continued commitment to sports development and providing platforms for athletes to showcase their talents.

The Davao City-UP Sports Complex Training Gym served as the venue for the 𝟏𝟗𝐭𝐡 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐮𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐚 𝐃𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐰 𝐌𝐢𝐠𝐳 𝐙𝐮𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐢 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐬 𝐊𝐚𝐥𝐢 𝐄𝐬𝐤𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐚 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, held 22-23 August 2026.

The event was organized by the Kapatirang Doble Olisi Eskrima (KDOE) in partnership with the Philippine Escrima Kali Arnis Federation (PEKAF), the Davao City Sports Development Division Office, and the DC-UP Sports Complex Management.

The competition brought together a total of 670 young athletes, composed of 459 Junior and 211 Cadet competitors, representing various arnis teams and schools. Participating teams included Alpha Mabini Arnis Knights, Alpha DDO, BCT Arnis Team, Black Armor, Black Cat Arnis Club, Blazing Swords, Cabantian National High School Arnis Club, Calinan National High School, Cotabato Dragons Arnis Club, Davao del Norte Regional Sports Academy, Davao City Special National High School, Davao City Special School, DCAT, ETEMAI Digos, Godcare-AOFNHS, Godcare-Bosque, Godcares Lasang, Godcares Panabo, Kalis Pintados, Kapatagan Highlanders Arnis Team, Kapitan Tomas Monterverde Sr. Central Elementary School, Lakan, Madayaw Eskrima, Magallanes Elementary School, Mahayag National High School, Mandirigmang Samalenyo, Matti Digos Tamaraw Vanguards, Precious International School of Davao, RMMC, Sarimanok Arnis Club of Balo-i National High School, SC Kali, SC Magani Sumoddoan Arnis Club, Sero La Panthers Arnis Club, Tacurong Arnis Fusion Squad, Tagum Sacred Warrior, UP Mindanao, ZCAT, Tandang City Arnis Club, and Kiamba Saranggani Arnis Club.

The tournament provided a platform for young arnis practitioners to showcase their skills, discipline, and sportsmanship while fostering camaraderie and strengthening the culture of Arnis, Kali, and Eskrima among participating athletes and teams.

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Patrick “Pato” Gregorio visited the DC-UP Sports Complex on 21 August 2026, to assess the progress of the ongoing construction of the Aquatic Center.

Present at the discussion were key UP Mindanao officials, including Campus Planning and Development Office (CPDO) Chief Architect Jean Marie V. Juanga, Architect Mary Grace Sy, Architect Gwen Harriet B. Ibanez, Office of the Chancellor Planning Officer Ediflor R. Yanong, Department of Human Kinetics Chair A/Prof. Jezreel M. Abarca, Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Administration for the Sports Complex Ryce B. Jubane, Sports Complex Architect Modesto Omerglenn D. Tolentino, Sports Complex Community Relations Officer Charlemagne L. Roscios, and Sports Complex Manager Roselyn S. Quidlat.

Representing the PSC were Chief of Staff Louise Jashil R. Sonido, Head Engineer Maria Victoria T. Moya, Technical Inspector Oscar A. Papelera Jr., and Executive Assistant Sarah B. Rosales. Le Bron Construction Company was represented by Mechanical Engineer Dionisio Antonio Jr. and Electrical Engineer Keth John Cervantes.

The discussion centered on the remaining works and funding requirements needed to complete and improve the Aquatic Center. Chairman Gregorio sought technical and cost estimates from UP Mindanao and Le Bron Construction Company covering the project's plumbing, structural, and electrical requirements, with the projected cost for the remaining works estimated at around ₱50 million.

The assessment provided an opportunity for the concerned offices and project stakeholders to align on the remaining requirements and determine the necessary resources toward the completion of the Aquatic Center.

IN PHOTOS | SPORTS ACADEMY – ARNIS ANYO 101 (SERIES 3) SOFT OPENING

The Sports Academy – Arnis Anyo 101 (Series 3) held its first session on 15 August 2026 at the DC-UP Sports Complex Training Gymnasium. 🥢

The session brought together Arnis athletes from Davao City National High School, Don Antonio Lee Chi Uan Integrated School, SPED Tugbok, Tugbok National High School, the University of Southeastern Philippines, and UP Mindanao.

The Kapatirang Doble Olisi Escrima (KDOE), under the leadership of Grand Master Mario Palazuelo, began the session with an orientation on the fundamentals and principles of Arnis.

As part of the refresher session, the athletes performed Anyo 1, Anyo 2, and Anyo 3, allowing participants to revisit and strengthen their familiarity with the prescribed forms.

We extend our appreciation to everyone who participated in the Academy’s first session. We look forward to welcoming everyone again on 29 September 2026 for the official launch of the program.
