Thank you for the great match and for organizing this league. Not every game ends in a win; there are also losses. What matters is that every team enjoyed the competition. Thank you so much, Brgy. Old Rizal, Catarman, Northern Samar, for this wonderful new experience!
Salamat! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ€

This is not just an accident it is a failure of duty, safety, and responsibility.

Rene was only 19 years old, a boy from Agusan del Sur, son of humble parents, who worked hard, became MVP of DAVRAA, champion at Palarong Pambansa, and earned his dream spot at Ateneo Blue Eagles the peak of every young Filipino basketball playerโ€™s dream. He carried the hope of his family, his region, and everyone who believed in him. He died June 8, 2026, drowned during a team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora a place known for strong currents and dangerous waves, yet chosen as a venue, without parental consent, without prior notice, without proper safety measures, and without even a simple waiver signed by parents.

What hurts most & what must be said:

1. Safety comes first, always.
Ateneo promised education, training, and care but safety was never optional, it was your main responsibility. You took him away from his family, you brought him there, you organized the activity; you are fully accountable. Saying it was โ€œjust an accidentโ€ or โ€œno foul playโ€ is too shallow, too cold, and too disrespectful to a life lost and a family destroyed.

2. Parents have the right to know.
You never informed them. You never asked: โ€œIs it okay with you?โ€ You decided for them. You treated their children like they belong only to the team, not to their families. Trust was given to you, and you broke it completely. His mother said: โ€œMy child is not a soldierโ€ he was a student-athlete, a son, a boy with a whole life ahead.

3. A tragedy that should never have happened.
Team-building does not mean risking lives in open sea with strong currents. Training does not mean putting players in danger. This was negligence, lack of proper planning, and lack of care. Two bright stars Rene and Divine Adili gone in one day, dreams cut short, families broken forever.

4. Justice is not just an investigation.
Justice means full accountability, truth, apology, and making sure no other family suffers this again. Do not hide behind statements or excuses. Face the family, answer every question, and take responsibility.

Rene did not just drown he died because safety was not prioritized, because parents were not consulted, and because those in charge failed to protect him.

He was our idol, our inspiration, our champion. His death must not be in vain. We demand:
- Full transparency
- Accountability from Ateneo & those in charge
- Strict safety rules for all school/team activities nationwide
- Justice for Rene Clert Baterbonia and Divine Adili

GIVE JUSTICE TO RENE CLERT BATERBONIA & DIVINE ADILI DO NOT LET THIS BE FORGOTTEN. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ๐Ÿชฆ

Benโ€™s pass to Dumalaon was so fast! Play this video over and over see how many times you notice that amazing ball control, then he shoots straight to the basket right away. So impressive! His hands move so quickly pure skill!

Our hearts are broken, and we are deeply saddened by the sudden, tragic loss of Rene Clert Baterbonia a young, brilliant athlete we all admired and looked up to.
We mourn his passing on June 8, 2026, in Dipaculao, Aurora, where he was swept away by a strong current during a team-building activity. Only 19 years old, Rene had already achieved so much: he was an MVP for DAVRAA, a proud representative of Eastern Visayas through EVRAA, and had earned his place to play for the Ateneo Blue Eagles. He was the kind of player who played with fire, skill, and pure heartsomeone who made us believe in what hard work and talent can achieve.

IDOL KA NAMIN GAW.
You were more than just a great basketball player to us. You were our inspiration, our role model, and someone who made us proud every time you stepped onto the court. Your light was too bright to fade this soon, but we will carry your legacy, your grit, and your love for the game forever.

Rest in peace, champion. You will always be our idol, and you will never be forgotten. ๐Ÿชฆ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ
