Pioneer in Davao Dragonboat Hiraya is a Filipino word which connotes “the fruit of hopes, dreams, aspirations, imagination, or wishes”.
The Minokawa is a giant bird in Bagobo folklore which was said to devour the moon, thus causing the lunar eclipse. Founded in April 9, 2014, Hiraya Minokawa Dabaw (HMD) is a newly organized group of individuals from different walks of life.We are composed of Dragon Boat enthusiasts with the common goal of advancing the sport, promoting water conservation, healthy lifestyle and fellowship among oth
er sports aficionados in Davao City. A fraction of our members are former paddlers affiliated with other Dragon Boat teams who have previously joined domestic and international competitions. Our own experienced paddlers have been actively helping out in training our novice members in our effort to hit Davao waters.May 1 to 4, 2014, marked our team’s debut to the public as the local government hosted the 1st2014 National Dragon Boat Festival Club Crew Challenge. For the first time, Hiraya Minokawa Dabaw raised paddles against local and national teams. As a result of our efforts, we were able to place 3rd in the 400-meter Open Category, a surprising outcome since training conditions were unfavorable. As HMD, we are not just a group of individuals gathered together for the sake of playing the game. Through all our hardships and endeavors we have become a family that strives hard to achieve its goals. We are still a young dragon continually training ourselves to become stronger and better. Growing on our own and being able to sustain this growth is part of the challenge as a team. Training together in Ecoland Seawall and Bonguyan Beach Resort, we continue to cultivate our potentials. Little by little, we are learning how to fly in this sport called Dragon Boat. For all interested, we are inviting you to soar with us. FOLLOW US ON:
