⚽ From sidewalk vendor to changing lives through football!

FROM SIDEWALK VENDOR TO TOP DEVELOPER: THE INSPIRING JOURNEY OF CORDILLERAN ATTY. ALEXANDER BANGSOY

Born to Igorot parents from Besao, Mountain Province, Atty. Alexander L. Bangsoy is one of the Cordillera's most inspiring entrepreneurs, proving that humble beginnings can lead to extraordinary success through hard work, perseverance, and vision.

Growing up, Bangsoy's family faced severe financial hardship. After they were evicted from their rented home in Quezon City, he became determined to change his family's future. To support his studies, he worked as a sidewalk vendor, selling goods along Session Road in Baguio City and knitted sweaters while studying law at Ateneo. Those struggles shaped his dream of providing affordable homes for ordinary Filipinos.

After practicing law, Bangsoy returned to Baguio and entered the real estate business with little capital. In 2005, he founded TBF Realty, followed by Goshen Land Capital Inc. in 2007. Under his leadership, the homegrown Baguio company pioneered mid-rise condominium developments in the city, helping address the growing demand for housing while transforming Northern Luzon's real estate landscape. The company has since completed numerous residential projects and expanded beyond the Cordillera.

His achievements have earned national recognition. In 2013, Bangsoy became a national finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Philippines Awards, one of the country's most prestigious business honors. Goshen Land was also named Developer of the Year by the Baguio Midland Courier for five consecutive years, while Bangsoy has been featured by Go Negosyo as one of its inspiring entrepreneurs.

Committed to lifelong learning, Bangsoy pursued advanced business education at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), completed executive studies in Sales Management at Kellogg University, and attended the Owner/President Management (OPM) program at Harvard Business School.

Beyond business, Bangsoy has championed community development through scholarships, football programs for youth, entrepreneurial training, and outreach initiatives that support underprivileged children in the Cordillera through Goshen Land's social responsibility programs.

For many Cordillerans, Alexander Bangsoy's story is a reminder that success is not determined by where a person starts in life, but by resilience, continuous learning, and the determination to create opportunities for others along the way.

⚽ A Baguio-Born Leader in Philippine Football

Did you know?

Major General Ramon J. Farolan AFP was widely known as the 16th Commanding General of the Philippine Air Force, but his remarkable service also extended to Philippine football.

Born in Baguio City on August 31, 1934, Farolan became a soldier, military aviator, commander, diplomat, government official, journalist and also a former president of the Philippine Football Federation! Yes you heard it right!

His contribution to the sport earned him a service award from the PFF in 2004, alongside other former federation presidents.

Farolan’s journey shows that leadership can reach far beyond one profession. From serving the country in uniform to contributing to the development of Philippine football, this son of Baguio left a legacy that deserves to be remembered by the local football community.

Major General Ramon J. Farolan passed away on May 31, 2023, at the age of 88.

🏆 Beyond Championships

Four players from Baguio City were recently accepted for full football scholarships in respected Manila institutions. Cyrus, Vinsce, Jhimer and Ian will continue their education at San Beda College and Polytechnic University of the Philippines. Late last year, the Baguio City Soccer Club also helped seven promising female futsal players enter National University and all seven remarkably were accepted.

These players will continue pursuing their dreams of becoming professional footballers while earning degrees in their course of choice. Their education also provides a valuable safety net if they choose a different career in the future or after retiring from professional football.

Winning trophies brings pride, but helping young players access life-changing opportunities creates a lasting legacy. BCSC is not only developing athletes. It is using football as a bridge to education and a better future.

For those who may not know, BCSC Coaches have quietly been helping players access scholarships and educational opportunities for more than a decade.

For me, achievements like these are worth more than any trophy. Congratulations to the players, their families, the club and everyone who made these opportunities possible.

Most importantly, congratulations to the coaches, the unsung heroes who continue opening doors for these young athletes. ⚽🎓
