Cricket PNG to Host Criiio Cricket World Cup Celebration for Young Females

Cricket Papua New Guinea will join more than 100 cricket nations around the world in celebrating women's cricket through a special Criiio Cricket World Cup event at Amini Park on Thursday, June 18, as part of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) global "Catch the Spirit" campaign.

The event will bring together six community teams from the National Capital District and Central Province, with approximately 42 Under-15 girls participating in the competition and more than 100 female participants expected throughout the day.

Cricket PNG Domestic Operations Manager Rarua Dikana said the event aims to connect local communities with the global women's cricket movement, inspire more girls to take up the sport, and encourage future generations to pursue opportunities in cricket.

Participating communities include Hanuabada, Pari, Kila Kila, Vabukori and Mahuru.

Cricket PNG Game Development Officer Quanaki Gaudi confirmed preparations are on track and teams are ready for the tournament. She also encouraged schools, communities and organisations to visit Amini Park and support women's cricket.

The event reflects Cricket PNG's commitment to creating inclusive opportunities and expanding cricket pathways for girls and young women across PNG.

Cricket PNG Update | Southern Highlands Province 🏏🇵🇬
Cricket is continuing to grow in Papua New Guinea's Highlands Region, with the Southern Highlands Province (SHP) Cricket Development Program successfully completing its Quarter 2 Cricket Blast Competition on 12 June, 2026.

Four elementary schools participated in the competition:
1.North Mendi SDA Elementary,
2.North Kagua Catholic Elementary, 3.Kumin Elementary,
4.Kiburu Elementary.

Preparations are now underway for the upcoming SHP Under-13 and Under-15 Liklik Smash Competition, with 8 boys' and girls' teams currently engaged in training and team registrations. Plans are also in place for a three-day umpiring and scorekeeping course in Mendi to further strengthen local cricket development and capacity building in the province. 🏏🇵🇬
