The PNG Kumuls proudly congratulate Kumul #321 Morea Morea Junior, Kumul #322 Gairo Voro and Kumul #323 Finley Glare on becoming the inaugural development players signed by the PNG Chiefs ahead of the club's entry into the NRL in 2028.

This landmark achievement marks the beginning of a new era for rugby league in Papua New Guinea. Through hard work, perseverance and outstanding performances, you've earned your place in history as the first PNG-born players to join the Chiefs.

Massive congratulations to Junior Kumul Philip Coates, who makes his NRL debut for the Brisbane Broncos in their Magic Round clash against the New Zealand Warriors! 🔥

The younger brother of Kumul #289, Xavier Coates, Philip proudly hails from Gulf Province. That pride and passion was on full display when he represented the 2024 Junior Kumuls in their 22-all draw with the Australian Schoolboys, where his hard-hitting defence made him an instant crowd favourite.

“I had the privilege to coach Phil Coates with the Junior Kumuls. I’m delighted seeing him named this week for his Brisbane Broncos debut,” said Junior Kumuls coach Joey Grima.

“This is only the beginning for someone truly destined for greater achievements ahead. All of PNG will be supporting, cheering and being inspired by a wonderful young man!”

📆The count down begins for our 🇵🇬PNG LNG Kumuls on their Road to the 2026 Rugby League World Cup

Our 🇵🇬 Kumuls will take on Lebanon and Samoa here at home in 2026 at the Santos National Football Stadium in the first two rounds of their Pool C matches, ahead of their Round 3 match against England at Win Stadium in Wollongong, Australia.

📸⚡Flashback Friday: Our 2000 Rugby League World Cup 🇵🇬 Kumuls Squad

Members of the 2000 RLWC squad recently presented jerseys to the 2025 PNG Kumuls, 25 years after their historic appearance in the World Cup held in France.

The team finished top of their pool and qualified for the quarter finals, a first for PNG, captained by Adrian Lam (Kumul #163). There performance on the world stage, showed the progression of the team and the game in PNG.

Before going to the 2000 World Cup, the team had played a trial match against Australia and were defeated 84 – 0 in Townsville.

Notably, members of this 2000 RLWC Kumuls squad have gone on to continue to make impact in the game and in their communities. Adrian Lam and Hon. Michael Marum went on to coach the PNG Kumuls. Current Melbourne Storm Head Coach, Craig Bellamy, was an Assistant Coach of our side at the time, now one of the most successful NRL coaches.
