Tournament Week Set to Deliver Big Boost for Buller with over 80 games of rugby!
Next week promises to be one of the biggest weeks on the Buller Rugby calendar, with two major secondary school tournaments bringing hundreds of players, coaches, supporters and officials to the region.
The week begins with the Rural Livestock Under-15 Rugby Tournament, which arrives in Westport with 17 teams from around the South Island. Among those competing will be the local Buller High School side, who will be looking to make the most of home-ground advantage.
Matches will be played across Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with the majority of games taking place at Craddock Park. Buller High School will host its own games for the first two days before teams come together for the business end of the tournament and Wednesday's finals.
Beyond the excitement on the field, the tournament provides a significant economic boost for the Buller district. With accommodation providers booked out and local restaurants preparing to welcome visitors from across the South Island, the tournament will generate valuable spending while showcasing everything Buller has to offer.
The rugby action doesn't stop when the Under-15 champions are crowned on Wednesday. The focus then shifts to the highly anticipated Jennian Homes South Island Secondary Schools Buller Girls 10s Tournament.
Nine teams from across the South Island will arrive in Westport on Wednesday evening, with competition getting underway on Thursday. Pool play and championship matches will be contested across Thursday and Friday before the tournament culminates with finals on Saturday.
The Buller Girls 10s tournament has become a fixture on the South Island rugby calendar and the tournament provides a fantastic platform for talented young female rugby players from across the South Island to showcase their skills and represent their schools.
For local rugby fans, it is a great opportunity to watch the next generation of players in action, with some of those taking the field potentially going on to represent their provinces and earn higher honours in the years ahead.
Across the two tournaments, Westport will host 26 teams and more than 80 games of rugby over six action-packed days.
