"E le tau faafuluina le segaula."
"A segaula (colorful bird) need not to be embellished. It already is naturally beautiful."

Our Women run out tomorrow in their Tia Paasi semifinal match looking to book their place in the finals, but also celebrate their captain's tonne.

Evelyn Tea turns out for her beloved Ories Women's team for the 100th time. An achievement that has come with challenges, a milestone marked with struggles, but a span of games also full of celebration and joy.

"O le upega e tautau ae fagota" | "A fishing net fishes even while hung to dry"

The blessings from her parent's and family's prayers have allowed her the strength to forge her own legacy at the O. A legacy dedicated to those that continue to support and embrace her success, and uplift her during hard times. In particular she will remember the tapua'iga of her late uncle Terry Taumoli, whose spirit continues to be a driving force behind Evey and her sisters from Porirua and Ories.

Evey’s heart and soul for rugby has been dedicated to better and example for the rising generation, and every sister she's been blessed to share the field with. Her selflessness is a trait that continues to galvanize her loyalty to the O!

A daughter of Sa'asā'ai, Aleisā, EFKS Cannons Creek, Porirua College, and the humble grounds of the O, we celebrate our new club Centurion - Evelyn Tea. Someone who continues to take the O, wherever she goes!

No one is perfect, but we must always strive to be better.

We live and we learn.

The beauty of rugby is in its people. We're all in this together.

The President and Chair of the Wellington Rugby Referees Association (WRRA), Ben Van Berkel, confirms that the Executive Committee of the WRRA has decided to not appoint referees to any grade for a weekend of 10-12 July. We had previously advised the WRFU of our intent to not appoint referees if referee abuse continued to occur and following three more referee abuse incidents on Saturday, no referees will be appointed next weekend.

Van Berkel noted that this season already, we have had 19 reported incidents of verbal abuse towards referees, which is not acceptable to his association. He also pointed out that the abuse has occurred across junior club rugby, secondary schools’ rugby and senior club rugby, not all reports have come from within the referees, with some being submitted by members of the public and the abuse has
come from players, club and school volunteers and spectators.

β€œThe WRRA continues, and will continue, to support Wellington Rugby but we have a duty and obligation to support and protect our members first and foremost” Van Berkel says. He reiterates that this decision by the Executive Committee was not made lightly, but given the widespread nature of this continued abuse, we believe all reasonable options have been exhausted and need to take this stand to support and protect our members.

The WRRA has advised Tony Giles, CEO of the Wellington Rugby Football Union, of their decision and looks forward to working closely with him regarding this issue.
