WELCOME TO OUR NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS!!
Unfortunately, we have had 4 committee members have to step down from their roles due to various personal reasons. Luckily we have had some AMAZING new committee members elected during our SGM to fill those roles until October when our committee for next year will be entirely re-elected!

Welcome Lucy, Gem, Sonia and Max!
The website has now been updated with their contact details.

Much of the Tararua and Aorangi forest parks are located in the Wairarapa Dark Sky Reserve, making them great for stargazing.

4 trampers and packs staying overnight at Atiwhakatu hut thus squeezed into a small car with a large telescope! 🔭

All 26 bunks were booked so it was busy! We bumped into a friend of VUWTC from Federated Mountain Clubs of NZ. We also delivered an orange bucket for the Greater Wellington Backcountry Network, an initiative making maintenance supplies more accessible for hut users 🙂

fourteen punters, a combined 10 hours of driving, ginger feral possums, the mighty mohaka river, amazing mineral hot pools potentially containing brain eating amoebas, and one handsome pilot. All make for a great way to spend a weekend!
Over the Weekend, 14 punters went to Mangatutu hotsprings to get away from the cold welly blues. All cars made it (bar the odd spin out) and the punters had a lovely time tramping through the scenic Kawekas along the Mohaka river. Lots of time was spent faffing in hot springs and taking cute pictures.
All in all, a really chill trip that I would recommend to anyone.🌈

Te Atuaoparapara peak mish! The team started with sunrise hut with the goal of summiting Te Atuaoparapara peak but due to excessive clag, sunrise hut turned into home base. They summited the next day earning epic views!!!

Bush ball 2026!! A magical and chaotic night of fairytale costumes and many goon bags…
Bushball was a blast! Gnomes, fairies, Robin hoods, red riding hoods, princesses and peas, and even puss and boots partied under the Smith’s Creek shelter for one mystical fairytale themed night!

Track maintenance!!
Our awesome team hiked into the Ōrongorongo Valley with an amazing DOC ranger. After a chill 2hr walk, they crossed the river and visited Raukawa Lodge and Jans Hut. Staying the night at Tūrere Lodge, they heard North Island brown kiwi!

Along the way, the helped with maintenance tasks like testing gas cookers and fire alarms, chopping firewood, reporting fallen trees, and removing rubbish. They split into groups and communicated using walkie talkies!

Awesome mahi team!
