Meeting this morning with rugby league legend Mark Graham prepping for tomorrow's session at Randwick Rugby League Sports Club Inc . Mark signed some North Sydney jerseys up for grabs tomorrow, plus Tawera Nikau signed a Melbourne Storm jersey also. Both played for Otahuhu and the Kiwis. Come and listen to Marks story 6pm at Randwick tomorrow night Friday. Sharko

Throw back Thursday .They dont make them like that anymore. Bernie Lowther makes an end to end break down field splits the GB defence, looks inside and the brother John goes over the line to score. The incredible world beating 1971 New Zealand Rugby League Kiwis. John only 21 at the time in his 2nd of 12 seasons with the Kiwis. Thanks Doug Martin for the video clip. Great memories

Politics in sport. Perenara haka. No place for politics in sport is the narrative of the privileged ( a bit like I don't see race or colour BS) and to follow Noam Chomskys korero those who seek sport as an o***m to dull the senses of the trials and tribulations of life. Politics has been in sport since take a knee, the black power salute at the Olympics, Muhammad Ali and civil rights anti Vietnam stance, Roberto Duran challenging the USA meddling and corruption in South America, Billy Jean King championing the rainbow community , Kathy Freeman carrying the Aboriginal flag. Closer to home I remember Anne Hare a celebrated runner from Lower Hutt in 1981 took a stance against the Springbok tour by responding to a news interview with "It's precisely because of politics we get to play sport or not". We need to see more of our celebrated sports heroes champion more than cars, fast foods and footwear. They have a powerful platform to make change for things that matter...Often quoted but holds true ..Sport has the power to change the World...Nelson Mandela.
