today is the last day to get 20% off ALL OnGuard products! This sale only happens once a year. This is your seasonal wellness - SORTED. https://www.doterra.com/NZ/en_NZ/sale?

Why is onGuard blend so good?

This incredible description from Buffy at Be Good Organics below, says it all best (Buffy is - in her own words: a Nutritionist, Naturopath, and working mama of four, including two pre-schoolers who are swimming in a sea of snotty noses daily) :-)

1. Foundational nutrients
Get these right, and everything else has solid foundations to build on.

- Vitamin C. - is water soluble so we don't store it, in fact we churn through it when stressed or run down. Unlike most animals, humans can't produce vit C, making dietary sources essential. It's easily obtained through food - kiwifruit, oranges, mandarins, grapefruit, broccoli (ever noticed how nature nailed it, and made all of those in season right now?).

- Vitamin D. The big one in winter, as we synthesise most of our vit D from sunlight and it's difficult to get through diet. In winter, the sun sits low, and we're covered up and indoors. It's a paid blood test in NZ (not subsidised), but worth the $40 to get yourself a baseline. Buffy recommend's upward of 75 nmol/L, and incidentally, during Covid there were no reported deaths in NZ in individuals with a status >75.

- Zinc. The lesser known member of team immune, but one of the first minerals the body chews through when under pressure. Worth a blood (another unsubsidised one), aim for above 10.
Red meat, pumpkin seeds, cashews, and lentils are your best sources.

- Beta-glucan. a prebiotic fibre that has been studied for decades as a powerful immune modulator. Underrated, quietly brilliant, and good old oats are your queen bee source.

2. Supportive herbs
- Echinacea. Its alkylamides activate our immune cells and support a healthy inflammatory response.
- Elderberry. Rich in anthocyanins, potent antioxidants which support the immune response.
- Olive Leaf. with oleuropein, known for its antioxidant and antimicrobial activity.
- Astragalus. Rich in polysaccharides and traditionally used to build long-term resilience and defence as well as support the nervous system.

3. Protective oils
Essential oils are super-charged plant compounds, the strongest form of plant medicine, and up to 70 times stronger than the fresh plants themselves. Essential oils are the plant's "volatile aromatic compounds" - that the plant uses to keep itself well. Because we share so much of our chemistry with plants, these compounds have a similar effect when we use them on ourselves. Genius.

>> Wild Orange. Rich in limonene, shown to boost glutathione, our body's master antioxidant.
>> Clove. Contains up to 80–90% eugenol, extensively studied for antimicrobial activity and long used in dentistry for its antibacterial properties.
>> Cinnamon. Rich in cinnamaldehyde, known for impressive antimicrobial activity against bacteria, fungi, and other environmental threats.
>> Eucalyptus. Contains eucalyptol (1,8-cineole), studied for respiratory support and maintaining clear airways.
>> Rosemary. Provides antioxidant compounds including rosmarinic acid and carnosic acid, supporting both immune and cognitive health.
>> Oregano. Exceptionally rich in carvacrol, one of the most researched antimicrobial plant compounds. Nature's true antibiotic.
>> Frankincense. Contains boswellic acids and unique terpenes studied for supporting a healthy inflammatory response, and resilience during stress.

Top seven immunity boosting oils for your winter wellness toolkit
Conveniently, until the end of this month (30 June), doTERRA has 20% off their entire On Guard antibacterial, antiviral and immune supportive range.

Recommended:
>> On Guard Chewable Tablets - tick off most of our nutrition bucket in a single chew: Vitamin C, Vitamin D, zinc, beta-glucan, plus the On Guard blend itself. They're vegan-friendly and kids love them.
>> On Guard Protective Blend - contains the top 5 oils in the list above (orange, clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary). Use in the diffuser, plus the topical Touch roller on wrists, necks, and behind ears before preschool, school, and work.
>> On Guard Cleansing Toothpaste and Mouth Wash - your mouth is winter's front door to airborne pathogens, making it an ideal place to coat with anti-bacterial compounds daily
>> On Guard Protecting Throat Drops - hit the bugs instantly!
>> On Guard Foaming Hand Wash and Cleaner Concentrate - to keep our bacteria-laden hands and high-touch surfaces germ free without the toxins.
>> Oregano & Frankincense - not on special, but highly recommend having in your kit.

If colds and flu are doing the rounds at your place, today is the best time to get yourself sorted before the school holidays.

In sad news, Robert A.F. Thurman, renowned Buddhist scholar, activist, teacher, author, and co-founder of Tibet House US, died on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, in Woodstock, New York. He was 84.
And yes, he was Uma's father.
I had the pleasure of speaking at the same Conference some years back and attended the workshop he offered - just a wonderful man and teacher...
Lilly Greenblatt, digital editor of Lion’s Roar offered this:
I was wondering how can we remain present while still planning — and even hoping — for a better future? I found my answer in Bob’s talk, where he spoke of using the present moment to visualize a better world.
“Try to imagine everything working,” he said. “Imagine everybody cheering up. Imagine people seeing the half-full glass. Imagine them finding their source of joy within themselves.”
“Visualize. Let the world be a mandala in time of people fulfilling what they really want,” he continued.
“Can you find something that is a blessing now — a miracle about your now? Be in the moment. Even imagining a good future, it makes you happy in the moment.”
“So be hopeful,” he concluded. “It’s all right. Turn your passion toward the positive.”

A longer explainer::
Everything is chemistry.

Including you. Including essential oils (EOs). Including the way your body responds to them.

EOs are nature's medicine - the plant's own immune system.
Anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anxiolytic... but without the toxic side-effects of regular, over-the-counter pharmaceuticals (which load up our liver - giving us something else to recover from; and can damage our gut lining, among other nasty effects).

One of the things I love most about working with essential oils is that the more you understand the chemistry, the less mysterious they become. You stop guessing, is this the right one? Am I using it right? - and start matching. This oil for this. That one for that. Pre-dinner mood support. The 3pm slump. The 2am ceiling-stare. The child with a runny nose.

The body runs on chemistry. Every cell, every signal, every subtle shift in mood, and sense of growing inner resilience. Oils run on chemistry too. So when you reach for one, you're not casting a spell - you're choosing a molecule for what it actually does - and letting your body do the rest.

These words from Dr David Hill explain it so well:
"...The unique chemical makeup of each essential oil is what gives them the ability to affect the body’s systems. Molecules in essential oils can selectively support the function of subcellular structures that run the processes that keep us alive.

By understanding the fundamentals of oil chemistry, you can begin to classify oils by their chemical properties. This will help you learn which oils might have applications in different daily life contexts and how they work."

Honestly? Once it clicks, you start to use them instinctively and intuitively, this is the shift. And start to realise, "huh - I haven't been unwell for ages! Huh, I'm calmer, huh - I have more energy and clarity".... it's gradual because its by nature which doesn't hurry - but everything that needs to, gets done.

Treat your future self to getting curious and exploring nature's medicine!

Return to Self - Yoga & Beats Retreat | Kapiti Coast 29/03/2026

So excited to share my next yoga retreat!

Return to Self | Yoga weekend 17-19 April

With over 2 decades of yoga between them, Karlin Frew and Freda Wells are passionate about bringing this weekend of yoga-guided healing and flourishing to you.

Join us as at the circuit breaker retreat in Waikawa Bay on the Kapiti coast, just an hour drive from Wellington, where we combine our favourite things: yoga, breathwork, meditation, dialogues on yoga philosophy and psychology, ocean swimming (optional!) music and beats, and good Kai and company.

There is something powerful about practicing in company, don’t miss this opportunity to plug into the transformational energy of the collective.

When we move towards what makes us feel alive, life unfurls in beautiful ways. When we choose self-love, movement, reflection, curiosity and connection - we are reminded of - and feel plugged into - the infinite flow of wisdom that is around us constantly, and recharges us. Yoga also supports us to see the stories we live in, come to understand them on a deep compassionate level, and then move through those that keep us stuck to access our next level of evolution. Learning never stops, and we are excited to share yoga - a complete system of human thriving - with you.

The schedule follows a spacious rhythm to allow you to fully drop into presence, reconnect with self, and access your innate capacity for healing, agency and joy.

You will leave with a reset perspective, mind, soma, and soul. This lovely weekend is designed to leave you clearer, more grounded, connected with your power and self-authorship, and enlivened by beautiful souls and coastal setting.

Grab the early bird prices before April 10th!
