Dear Full and Eligible Bowling Members,

Your Selectors Committee and Match Committee need you!

Wilton BC is looking to build on our success from last season and is exploring the opportunity to increase our representation numbers across Men’s and Women’s Interclub, Pennants, and Bowls 3Five, and we can’t do that without you.

On Saturday 5 September, your Match and Selectors Committees will be holding a meeting for all Full members.

What is the Purpose of the Meeting?

Our playing members are absolutely vital to the future of our club. Wilton Bowling Club needs more players putting their hand up to represent the club, not just the same few faces, but a wider group of members who want to be part of something meaningful, enjoyable, and important.

So, we encourage you ALL to come along and hear what we have to say.

Wilton BC is currently in discussion with Central Levin to secure 2 team entries for their Two Day Triples tournament. Entry fee $50 per player. Please express your interest in playing in the post comments. We have 3 on our list already and looking for 3 more. First in, best dressed! Commitment and entry fee essential.

A great weekend was had by our guys at the Masterton Winter Classic. Whilst the Wilton team couldn't secure enough wins to feature in the title placings it was fantastic to hear the Wilton good play, great sportsmanship and camaraderie is alive and well and doing us proud.

As a result of how the team represented our club, Wilton BC came away from this classic with invitations to no less than four invitational tournaments from clubs outside Wellington Centre.

Masterton BC have also proposed a Bi Annual challenge with Wilton BC, which was warmly accepted and will be taken back to the Match Committee to develop the concept with Masterton BC.

A special thanks to all the teams that played and Masterton BC for a stunning tournament which beat the weather challenges presented and produced a memorable 2 days of quality bowls played in such great spirit by all.

Some of our guys, including 2 Juniors, have hit the road and headed up last night to play in the Masterton Winter Classic this weekend.

And they have got off to a good start with a come behind win in the first game where they picked up an 8 on the third last end to eventually win by 2.

Over the weekend, the Raumati Bowling Club held their annual Junior Pairs 1-5 years 242 competition.

This is a very popular and well organised event and entry is very popular and fills up quickly. Restricted to 32 teams, players participate in 4 matches on day 1 to determine rankings and divisions for day 2. Such is the level of interest that there was a waiting list of 17 players.

Bill & Lindsay battled hard on day 1 ending with 1 win, 3 loss record (7-12, 8-10, 14-7 & 8-12). As a result they were placed into the division 3 competition held on day 2 with 15 other teams.

The weather although cold and chilly to start improved across the day and this reflected in the results, 3 wins and 1 loss ( 9-5, 6-7, 10-9 and 8-6) to finish 4th out of 16. Although disappointed to lose game 2 by 1 point, Bill & Lindsay showed true grit and fortitude to close out games 3 & 4 on their last bowl when the result was not looking good.

Lindsay delivered a cracking drive in game 3 which required the umpire’s long measure to get the all important 3rd bowl. In game 4 with the game delically balanced, Lindsay produced an awesome draw shot to take out 2 opposition bowls sufficient to earn another great win.

Congratulations to both for an outstanding effort proudly representing Wilton BC.

Great to see so many people looking at our wonderful club via Google maps. That’s a lot visitors …
