I thought I would follow up on a recent post I made about not taking dilute mares to Ace currently, that for some reason seemed to grab a lot of attention, and cause some very strong opinions πŸ˜…. First of all, it was just supposed to be informative to those who didn't understand, and I expected the usual 30 or so reactions, maybe a comment or two...... but, algorithms and all, I got comments and reactions from far and wide, and absolutely pi**ed some people off with my musingsπŸ˜…. I deleted one comment from one person who said "you think you're the only person in the world responsible enough to stand a double dilute stallion, and you obviously have no selection process, and will breed anything with a uterus". How they got that from my post still beats me, and although I thought about responding, it was obvious they weren't out for a logical conversation, so I couldn't be bothered. I do want to point out it's a pretty common rule of most dilute stallions, and also, I can choose to breed or not breed my stallion to any mare I want........ so I really can't understand where the outrage comes from 🀣. Anyway, ramblings over, here's a pic of the cutest boy Koda, and gorgeous mumma Aurora, one of last year's babies living his best life in the Waikato. So excited for the arrival of spring and new babies on the ground!

I've been asked a few times why I won't take dilute mares to be put in foal to Ace, so I thought I would explain it here. If Ace goes to a dilute mare, and the baby comes out double dilute like him and a c**t, a lot of people may want to then keep that c**t entire and stand him at stud. Yes, that competes quite directly with Ace, being a double dilute with his bloodline, but far more important to me, is that if that were to happen one day, I'd want it to be a worthy animal, and to be sure the owner would be capable of owning and standing a stallion safely. A double dilute isn't really a desireable color for itself, double dilutes are mostly wanted for people who are in the breeding game, to breed buckskins and paliminos. I kept Ace entire, not because he is a pretty color or will throw pretty colors, but because he has all the attributes I like in a horse, excellent nature, correct conformation, health and natural ability. I never intended to own a stallion, and I don't ever plan to own another. For now, I feel the responsible thing to do, is not breed to dilutes, so people aren't tempted to keep a horse entire for the sake of color alone.

Anyone local to me have a pair of hoof nippers I could borrow for one trim? I have misplaced mine, I know they'll turn up, but I have been putting off a trim due to a sarcoid being treated on my boy's pastern, so really keen to get him done now it's finished treatment.
