A huge congratulations to Eva Elers (Trojans) and Paige Franklin (CHB) on their outstanding performances at the HBPB Winter Short Course Championships, where both swimmers added their names to the HBPB Short Course Age Group Record books! 👏🔥

⭐ Eva Elers – Trojans
Eva smashed the 13 Years 1500m Freestyle record with a time of 18:11.07, taking down the previous record of 18:19.36, set by Zandra Danvers way back in 2005! 🏆

⭐ Paige Franklin – CHB
Paige set a new 18 Years 50m Breaststroke record in 33.04, breaking her own record of 33.13 that she had set just a couple of weeks earlier! 🔥

🏊‍♂️ NZSS Swim Champs: A Club Effort 🏊‍♀️

While all 14 of our Krakens competed for their respective schools at the NZSS Swimming Championships, they train side by side as members of our club.

Their collective success reflects not only their commitment, determination, and hard work, but also the outstanding coaching of Alonso Fdz, who has helped develop many of these swimmers over a number of years.

As a club, we are incredibly proud of every one of them for their achievements, sportsmanship, and dedication throughout the championships. Their performances on the national stage are a testament to the strength of swimming in Central Hawke's Bay and an inspiration to the next generation of swimmers coming through our squads.

🏊‍♀️ HBPB Swimming Short Course Records 🏊‍♂️
Congratulations to our incredible record breakers!

This weekend at the NZ Secondary School Championships in Auckland, several long-standing HBPB Swimming Age Group Records were shattered:

🔥 Paige Franklin (CHB) broke Ella Jamieson’s 2019 record in the 18 Year 50 Breaststroke (33.13) and Katie Bone’s 2005 record in the 18 Year 100 Breaststroke (1.12.70).

🦋 Ruby Sisam (Sundevils) broke Emily Thomas’s 2007 record in the 16 Year 50 Butterfly (28.06).

💨 Sam Skidmore (Trojans) broke Daniel Gregory-Campbell’s 2011 record in the 17 Year 50 Freestyle (23.12).

👏 Huge congratulations to these swimmers for their outstanding performances and dedication — rewriting history in the pool!

🏊 NZSS Swim Champs 2026 – Session 6 Update 🏊‍♀️

What a fantastic way to finish the meet with our Krakens giving it everything they had in the final session.

We kicked things off with the CHB College Girls U16 4x50m Freestyle Relay, where the team delivered a brilliant swim lowering their seed time. Well done, girls!

Next up, Paige swam an outstanding 200m Individual Medley, claiming silver medal honours in a new personal best time. Another incredible achievement!

The final event of the meet was the 50m Freestyle, with 13 Kraken swimmers taking to the blocks. A huge congratulations to the eight swimmers who achieved personal bests: 👏 Ava, Abby, Sophie, Carlos, JM, Charlie, George, and Kate

A special shout-out also goes to Charlie, who finished 7th in his age group, earning a top-10 placing in the 50m Freestyle. Fantastic racing!

That brings the 2026 NZSS Swim Championships to a close. We are incredibly proud of all our Krakens and everything they have achieved throughout the meet. Thank you to our amazing coach, Alonso for helping them prepare for this meet and their schools & parents getting them to the event so their can participate. Also, to Grassroots Trust for help with some funding towards costs towards attending the event for the CHB College students.

We also would like to mention our incredible club chairperson, Erin Jenkins who took the time to be a technical official over the 4 days. Meets like these simply could not happen without dedicated people like Erin. You are a real star ⭐👏

And finally, a very special congratulations to Paige, who broke two HBPB Regional Short Course Records during the championships. Paige now holds the 18-year-old Girls Short Course Records for both the 50m Breaststroke and 100m Breaststroke. The 100m breaststroke record stood for over 20 years. What an amazing accomplishment! 🏆💙

NZSS Swim Champs Session 5 Update🐙🏊‍♀️

The session kicked off with an exciting Skins Race featuring our very own Paige. Qualifying as one of the top 10 swimmers in the 16+ Girls 100m IM, Paige took on a challenging knockout format where a wheel determines the stroke and swimmers race 50m, with the slowest two eliminated each round.

Paige battled her way through to the final two swimmers before being beaten by a better butterfly swimmer. An incredible effort to finish 2nd overall. Congratulations, Paige! 👏🥈

Next up was the 50m Backstroke, with nine Krakens in action. Five swimmers achieved personal bests:

⭐Charlie
⭐ George
⭐ Ava
⭐ Sophie
⭐ Brooklyn

The session concluded with the 100m Butterfly, where both Sophie and Paige also recorded new PBs. 🚀

That gives us an outstanding 64% PB rate for the session! 🎉

Other highlights include top 10 age group placings:
⭐Charlie - 6th place in the 50m Backstroke
⭐Christina - 10th place in the 50m Backstroke
⭐Paige - 4th place in the 100m Butterfly
