🏆Winner🏆Wellington Airport Regional Community Award, Sport & Leisure, Upper Hutt Region!

We've been keeping something pretty special under our hats… we're the Upper Hutt Regional Winners for Sport & Leisure!

These awards celebrate the volunteers who make our club what it is, so really, this one belongs to every single one of you after a huge year.

From our committee to our coaches, skaters, parents and caregivers, we love the breadth of mahi that goes into keeping this club going. A special shout-out to all the volunteers behind the scenes, quietly doing the day-to-day mahi that keeps the club running, the small stuff that often goes unseen but makes everything possible 🙌

It's been a massive year: the move, the working bees, transitioning our competitive skaters and learn-to-skate whānau to new venues. Our old facility on Railway Avenue served our club for around 20 years, but what truly makes our club special is not the building. It is the people, the teamwork, the compassion, the sportsmanship, and the lifelong connections.

He tāngata – it is the people. It's thanks to everyone single one of you that we're glad to see out another year in Te Awakairangi, and see so many people enjoy putting on some skates.

Big thank you Corey for taking time out of your evening to come see what we’re about, and also helping spread the word about our learn to skate classes 🩵🛼 Ngā mihi!

Two of our skaters, Maria and Lucia, from Wainuiomata, made the back cover of the Wainuiomata News this week! Thank you Wainuiomata News for celebrating our skaters' successes - we love that we have skaters from all throughout Te Awakairangi and Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

Thank you Chilton Saint James School for sharing about our athletes’ success ♥️🛼 we love seeing our school support our skaters, and all the hard mahi that goes into skating at a national level.

Congratulations to Mary-Grace Prisk (Year 7) and Marielle Prisk (Year 8), who won Bronze in the Show Skate category at the 2026 New Zealand Artistic Roller Skating Championships in Napier. 🥉⛸️

Competing with a synchronised team routine, the pair delivered a fantastic performance to earn a place on the podium at the national championships.

Well done, Mary-Grace and Marielle!

Te Whanganui-a-Tara skating throwback: did you know that there used to be a roller rink in central Wellington (now the site of the currently closed Amora Hotel). Which rink from times past should we feature next?

Times have certainly changed - Upper Hutt Roller Skating Club is the only artistic skating club in the Wellington region!
