Darryl and Ross had a great day attending the Trade and Industrial Waste Forum last week.

It was a valuable opportunity to hear what’s happening across the trade waste industry around New Zealand, learn about some of the challenges and changes different regions are facing, and see how others are approaching them.

One of the highlights was meeting and connecting with a number of Trade Waste Officers from around NZ and having some really good conversations about what’s happening on the ground.

Always worthwhile getting out, sharing ideas, making connections, and bringing some new knowledge back to CST Group.

On Friday, we headed out to catch up with the awesome team at Phoenix Civil Limited and put on a BBQ to say thanks for their continued support and for being such a great team to work with.

Tanya took charge of the BBQ and absolutely nailed it, keeping the crew well fed while everyone enjoyed a proper catch-up.

We do a lot of work with Phoenix Civil, and having a trusted team to work alongside makes a real difference on every project. Good people, good communication and a strong working relationship go a long way.

Thanks for having us Phoenix Civil Limited - it's always great catching up with the crew, and we’re looking forward to plenty more projects together!

Our Team in Action: Emergency Flood Response at Hamilton Police Station

Last week, our CST Group team was called urgently to the Hamilton Police Station after a council pipe burst and caused extensive flooding throughout the basement.

Our crews used our specialist vacuum trucks and equipment to quickly and safely remove the floodwater, bringing the affected area back under control.

It’s exactly the kind of job our Flooding & Emergency Spill Response service is built for.

Matt has been with CST Group for almost 9 years and is one of the guys out there doing the mahi, meeting customers and getting the job done every day.

FAVOURITE PART OF THE JOB
Being out and about, meeting people and never knowing exactly what the day will bring. No two days are the same, and over the years he’s made some great mates along the way.

SOMETHING CUSTOMERS MIGHT NOT KNOW
You can’t always completely empty a tank if there’s a high water table around it. Take too much weight out of the tank and there’s a risk it can actually lift or “pop” out of the ground. A good reminder that there’s often a bit more to these jobs than simply turning up and pumping a tank out!

BIG ACHIEVEMENT
Matt got his Class 4 licence a few years ago, helping him take on even more of the work happening out in the field.

AROUND THE YARD
Matt is known for always being up for a good yarn - whether that’s with the team or customers out on site.

OUTSIDE OF WORK
Weekends are usually a mix of hunting, fishing, watching the kids’ sport and spending time with family. One family tradition Matt values is getting everyone together for dinner once a month. And if you’re looking for him on a quiet Sunday morning, Robert Harris in Cambridge is a pretty good place to start. ☕

FUN FACT
Matt was born in England and moved to New Zealand when he was three.

The workshop is designed to empower individuals to think like owners, take greater accountability, and create value every day. It's about building confidence, initiative, and a mindset that drives positive outcomes, for both the individual and the business.

MEET ROSS BREWER

If you’ve called, or worked with CST Group recently, there’s a good chance you’ve already dealt with Ross.

As General Manager at CST Group, Ross plays a key role in keeping the business moving across our Liquid Waste, Industrial, Water, and Factory divisions. From supporting the team and working with clients, through to planning jobs, improving systems, and helping drive the business forward, Ross is involved across a wide range of day-to-day operations.

At CST Group there is plenty going on, and Ross is usually right in the middle of it.

What he enjoys most about the job is working with a great team, solving problems for customers, and helping CST Group continue to grow while staying true to its values.

At CST Group, we’re here to help, and Ross is a big part of making sure that happens.

Ross enjoys the variety. No two days are the same, “there is normally something crappy to sort out” 😊.

Ross enjoys a good road trip, preferably down a route not travelled before, and spending time with his wife and 3 boys when he’s not working in the business.

A proper family holiday, somewhere warm (a fire at the beach), with a little phone reception just in case it's urgent😊.

Ross joined CST Group after 17 years working in other teams and has helped grow the business into what it is today.
