Hello team, here are the club results from Nationals. We did very well overall & particularly well in sparring, but we need to create some depth in our medal tally, by working on patterns, specialty & destruction. So Saturday squad trainings are key.
Our junior classes are really growing, with some very talented students, so by next year, we should have a large number of yellow, green & blue belts eligible to compete.
It would be great if more of our youth in the senior classes competed. This is why participating in our in house youth tournaments is so important to build confidence in competing and to gain valuable experience.
As our club continues to develop, let's set ourselves a target of both taking that number 1 club spot next year and helping bolster the midlands region.
Lot's of work to be done, but let's get started TODAY!

ITKD Nationals Stories:
I just want to take a moment to celebrate the success of the Lenny family at the Taekwon-Do National Champs.
1 Family, 3 National Champions.
This doesn't happen by accident, these kids are at the academy training 5-6 days per week. Their commitment to their journey is unmatched, and that is why this beautiful family now has 3 National Champions under their roof.
I also have to point out that every champion, has incredibly supportive parents behind them, traveling around the country (last term 7 tournaments), without their support, these results would not be possible.
Thank you Manawa & Shaun, for showing such commitment to your kids development, celebrate their success, you should be very proud of them.
More Nationals stories to come...

What an outstanding weekend for our Hwa Rang team at the 2026 ITKD National Championships!
We are incredibly proud of every student who stepped onto the mats and represented our club & the Midlands region. The results were fantastic, but even more pleasing was seeing the confidence, determination and competitive spirit our students are developing through their commitment to training.

A very special thank you also needs to go to Sarah Grimes, who did a wonderful job as Midlands regional team manager, organising our Nationals squad trainings, liaising with competitors and families, and helping make sure everyone was organised and able to enjoy the experience.
There is a huge amount of work that happens behind the scenes at events like this, and we greatly appreciate the time and effort put in by our coaches, our seniors who helped judge, umpire and martial at the event, ITKD as a whole for hosting these events.
Congratulations to all of our competitors, coaches, supporters and families.
We're extremely proud of what this team achievedโbut we're even more excited about where we're heading.
The work continues. The standards keep rising. And this is only the beginning.

This weeks Hwa Rang Student of the Week is Kayden. He is receiving the award for a 2nd time for his commitment to training.
Kayden trains multiple disciplines at the academy, he is here training a minimum 4 days per week, he does private lessons, he attends squad training sessions weekly, he travels and competes at every opportunity he can find, even traveling all the way to Wellington & back in one day to compete.
Kayden's commitment to training is showing both in his technique, his confidence and the results he's getting in competition.
Also a shout out to Pete & Belinda, without a very supportive family, the progress that Kayden is making is very difficult to achieve.
Well done Kayden, keep leading by example.

Introducing the New Hwa Rang Taekwon-Do Logo
For some time now, TMAA and our senior Taekwon-Do instructors have been discussing a rebrand for Hwa Rang Taekwon-Do. A lot of thought has gone into creating an identity that reflects not only our club, but the history and meaning behind the name Hwa Rang.
Weโre excited to now introduce our new logo.
The Hwarang were an elite group of young warriors from Koreaโs ancient Silla Kingdom, known for their discipline, courage, loyalty and commitment to developing both character and martial ability. Their legacy is also recognised within Taekwon-Do through Hwa-Rang Tul, the pattern performed at red belt level.
Our new logo brings those two elements together. The warrior represents the Hwarang, while the strong use of red represents Hwa-Rang as a red belt pattern and an important stage in a Taekwon-Do studentโs progression.
The Korean writing ํ๋ reads โHwa Rangโ (Hwarang) โ the Korean name represented by our club.
More than simply a new look, we wanted the logo to represent what we want Hwa Rang Taekwon-Do to stand for: strong standards, discipline, progression, courage and pride in being part of the club.
This is the beginning of a renewed identity for Hwa Rang, while still recognising the history and traditions on which the club was built.

A very belated nod to Sara, who was our Hwa Rang student of the week for the last week of term 2. Unfortunately as I was traveling, I didn't post and we didn't get to celebrate her success.
Well done Sara, your focus and attention to detail has made for rapid progress, and I look forward to seeing you do your first gup grading at our next club grading.
Sara is also becoming a very capable sparrer, I can't wait to see you compete again soon.
Well done Sara!!

Some great pics from Vet's camp over the weekend. Another fantastic opportunity for our students to get together, learn, share, grow and socialise.
