Kaingaroa Tipu has commenced the roadside mowing programme in Whakarewarewa Forest, which will run through to 25th September 2026.

The mower will have 2 pilot vehicles, front and back. Affected recreational trails will be closed briefly by the front pilot and re-opened by the rear pilot once the mower is clear of the area. KT requests that forest users please use caution around the operation, obey all signage, instructions, and restrictions – they are there for your safety.

It started as a cool and crisp day, and ended in heaps of smiles and happy groms

Race 2 of the Lil Legends DH Series was an absolute blast and we couldn’t be more stoked with how supportive the kids have been of each other. We set out a priority of FUN FIRST closely followed by teaching kids the ins and outs of racing so they can be introduced to the competitive side of the sport without the pressures of a normal race environment, and they have truly embraced it.

It’s been soooooo cool to see kids giving it a go and also seeing the more seasoned riders helping the others long.

LIL’ LEGENDS DH SERIES RACE 3

Senders (Gravity Stage)

Date: Sunday 13 September 2026
Track: Tukonohi in to Whaaki
Race Hub: Te Putake o Tawa Carpark

Approximate timetable:

8.30am–9.30am: Registration

9.30am–11.30am: Two practice laps

11.45am–2.00pm: Two race runs

2.15pm: Prize giving, or as soon as results are ready

The long range forecast looks perfect and we are once again counting down to a sell out Lil Legends DH Series race 2.

We are again looking for 5 volunteers to come out and help. Let us know by email or flick us a message on our social pages with your contact deets if you can help.

The countdown is on and below we have a bit of info to help make your day smoother.

REGISTRATION
What: Collect your race plate and timing chip from our friendly registration team.
Where: Bottom of Titokorangi Track — finish line area, End of Titokorangi Track Section 1 on Tokorangi Pa Rd
When: Sunday 2 August 2026, 8am–9.30am.
Carpark shuttles from Waipā will operate from 8am until 9am for those who don’t want to pedal or walk to the shuttle turnaround area HOWEVER it is likely to be faster to pedal in to Race HQ then it is to shuttle.

RACE PLAN
Compulsory race briefing at the finish line at 9.30am. Riders will then load straight into shuttle buses for 2 practice runs.
A second briefing will be held at approx. 11.30am at the finish line. Riders will then head up for 2 race runs, with a 30-second gap between riders, up to a 4-minute gap between categories and riders will be racing oldest to youngest age categories, fastest to slowest riders as timed during practice.

RACE FINISH
Once all riders have completed both race runs, please return to the finish line area and wait for prize giving at the finish line.
Carpark shuttles back to Waipā will operate after prize giving.

MORE INFO
There will be no food or coffee trucks at this event so please bring enough food and water for the day.
No rubbish bins on site so take your trash out too.
Riders should bring suitable riding gear, warm clothing and wet-weather gear if needed. Helmets are compulsory while riding.

DON’T BE A DO**HE
Parents are not permitted to ride the race track with their kids during the event.
You must not ride down shuttle roads.
