WAIKITE | INAUGURAL WINNERS OF TE PUIA O ŌHINEMUTU TROPHY 🏆💛🖤

What a way to finish off our 125th celebrations and the 2026 season with our Senior A men winning the first battle for the new Te Puia o Ōhinemutu Trophy.

A special moment for our club, and one that means a lot to our 2026 Senior A Captain, Manaaki Te Kowhai who shared:

“This win definitely means a lot to me, being the first time it’s ever been played for and topping it off by being the first winners of this taonga as well.

A memorable moment for me would be playing with some of our young fullas coming up through the ranks, as well as some of our ex-Waikite whānau who have moved into other clubs. Having them come back for a game was pretty special.

Obviously, once upon a time Waikite and Kahukura were one club, so I just want to mihi to our brothers from across the bridge and thank them for bringing it to us every game we play them. They never make it easy for us, and it’s always fun playing against some familiar faces and whānau.

Being the last game of the 2026 season, my hopes for the new year are that we can hold onto all our players, lock in for a meke preseason, and give it a better crack next year.” 💛🖤

Thank you to our Waikite Junior Rugby Club for organising a special game to represent our club and for running the BBQ today

Reminder the netball games today against Kahukura rugby & sports club will now be played at Rotorua Intermediate School. Back entrance. 930 Ambers, 1030 Panthers 1130 Masters

Celebration BBQ at our Waikite 125 Whānau Day at the club tomorrow!

Our JRC will be running the BBQ throughout the day, so come down, grab some kai and support our babies while we celebrate 125 years of Waikite.

Our amazing Waikite Junior Rugby Club are fundraising to build up pūtea ready for the start of the 2027 season, where they plan to kick the year off with a whānau day!

They work really hard and it is important to our JRC that they can be as self-sufficient as possible, so they’re taking every opportunity they can to fundraise and put a little pūtea aside for all of our tamariki 💛🖤
