I hope everyone is having a good start to 2026

Unfortunately i won’t be running tag in Rotorua anymore i have moved to Te Puke and will run a comp there in 2027 .

If anyone would like to take over please pm me ,

Its been tough to get the game out there and promoted but good things take time and i had planned to stay in it for the long haul but my situation has changed , its been cool to watch people who have never played tag take to it and hit the ground running .

I have asked Whakarewarewa Sports club if they’d be interested but they politely declined and i did have 1 member say they could be interested but the logistics may not suit , it be ashame for the game to die just as it was slowly growing momentum.

I would like to thank all the teams and players that got involved and over the past 3 years i saw potential to take teams to Nationals to represent Waiariki / BOP .

Rotorua has a big pool of talent with players and teams playing League , Rugby , Touch , Tag and Kiorahi .

Please pm if interested to take over … its not easy but not impossible

Ka nui te mihi ki ngā tima/roopu katoa, ki ngā mātua i heria mai ō koutou tamariki ia te wiki ia te wiki, ngā volunteer kaiwawao, ki āku kōtiro i awhinatia i a au i tēnei tau, ahakoa he iti he pounamu. We were blessed with some good weather apart from one miserable wet Monday, but Tag still won that day.

2025 Men's Champions were last year's champions, but under a different name, “My Little Ponies”. These young lads are the benchmark. The scary thing is they are still young and haven’t even hit their peak as young men; it's going to take a very good team to knock these guys off top spot over the next couple of years. I just wish a couple of them would volunteer as refs, as they seem to pull out all the rules during the games. Their experience at nationals shows a great example for our younger players to see what can be done. Congratulations, boys!

2025 Mixed Champions again were 2024 champions, “Kick Backs”, fine-tuning their squad with a wealth of experience and some top touch players. This team is the example of when tāne and wāhine can play; the balance is right, the communication is second to none, and the second-best uniform in the comp, led by a power couple, Moko and Jayvi, with their mataamua ki tā rāua taha. Another team to beat in 2026! Ka nui te mihi ki a koutou!

2025 Junior champs: this grade is not boys or mixed but junior-aged 14 and under. Although we are still growing the game of Tag here in Rotorua, there's no wonder Pikiao senior league team won this year, with Pikiao fielding three teams from men's to juniors; footy is definitely at the forefront for the club .

Shout to the kōtiro and wāhine who played this year from mixed to JPC all girls team , its a good sign when our wāhine are playing
