Been a bit slack on the updates lately with racing and juggling work priorities.

As you may or may not know, 93R has sold and she’s got a new home down in Christchurch. As for the old man you’re never quite sure if he’s going to retire or not. For me though, I need to make sure I keep the wheels turning on 193, or I might get the boot out of the seat 😂

We kicked the season off with a couple of shockers for 193. From broken shocks, snapped torque arm bolts, broken driveshafts and the driver having a few too many takeaways over the off-season 🤦🤣

After taking a fair bit of damage at the triples, we hauled the car down to Hunter Built HQ. Massive thanks to Kenny Boy, Devon, Jordan “The Pipe Bender” Mason, and my old man for the huge mahi on 193. True Hunter fashion the steel arrived just hours before trophy night but the boys got stuck in and gave 193 a brand new nose. Even rushed, the work looked like a work of art. Absolute beautiful workmanship, Kenny G.

Once the new nose went on we noticed our bumper heights were all out, so with Kenny Boy’s help we slapped on 335R rear shocks, did about a 30-second setup, and headed to the track. Big thanks to our good mate Robbie Mabey for lending us his scales. We put the car on the scales at the track and she was pretty much bang on 💪

We only managed one race that night before the gremlins struck again. The battery died before race two and the carb horns decided to leak fuel everywhere. With no replacements, our night was done. Still, the drive and handling of the car was unreal and way easier to drive and we were fizzing for the next meeting.

Heading into club night, we were pumped to be asked to run in the Rebels inter-house competition. After years of watching the old man teams race, we were more than ready. Unfortunately, due to some legal circumstances outside the club’s control, the event couldn’t go ahead. Gutted, but it is what it is and racing still went on at the Valley.

Race one was a real challenge track-wise, but we worked through the pack to grab 3rd. After a proper debrief from Ken and the old man, we went into race two with a different approach. Trusting Ken’s setup and adjusting my driving style, I realised 193 still had a sh*tload more to give and I just wasn’t letting it. Came home 3rd again after a tough start.

Race three, we pushed a bit harder, but a few laps in the centre of the right rear decided to part ways with the rest of the rim and we had to retire. Still, super impressed with how the car was handling.

Race four was pretty much a sprint. As the track slicked right up, I pushed harder and harder and was buzzing with how well the car stuck. With a bit of help from Rotoruas hard man Robbie Morris, we managed to secure the win. Absolute stoked and cracking my first win for the team after all the hard work everyone’s put into our waka.

Overall, I’m wrapped with how the car’s running and can’t wait to hit the track again at the Stockcar North Island Champs next weekend.

Massive thank you to my cousin Ken for your input and for telling me what I need to hear when I come back in. Next season could be interesting just saying 👀

And a massive thank you to my old man for the tireless efforts to get 193R going. Even with hardly any spare time in his days before heading back to work, he’s still out there grinding, putting in the hours and making sure the car is ready to roll. Always backing me, always keeping me honest when I’m not quite getting something right. Absolute legend.

Update 🏁

The weather put a damper on things quite literally lastnight before being postponed until today. The rest of night 2 kicking off from 4pm at Nelson Speedway Association Inc.

Before the rain set in we managed to get the Repercharge done and Heat 1 of our round.

Repercharge - we knew starting on grid 24 that is was going to be a fight to get to that top spot, but we gave it our best. We made our way up to midpack and 4 laps into the race saw Scott Miers slowing down ahead of us. This time we were ready and before the heat turned on us, we brang the heat and with perfect timing from Gaz, he put 8p on the wall off turn 4. With that being said - we leave the talking on the track 👍 Congratulations to Buckrell Racing for the win! 🙌🏁

Heat one of our round - starting on grid 19, we changed our set up to suit a slick track. The conditions on the track were very dry, lots of dust. We had a good race finishing 5th. The rest of the program will start from 4pm today. Heat 2 we will be up on grid 3 💪

Top cars from the groups go through to compete in Heat 3 for a decent amount of 💰

Crew is out there on cleanup, prep, reset as we prepare to get some good racing underway tonight. The sun is shining ☀️

Qualifying night of the DC Equipment NZ Superstock Champs 2025.....

Heat 1 - Hunting off Grid 13, we were in good spirits and ready to send it. About 3 laps in Dad got abit of attention from Scott Miers where he put him up the wall, unfortunately by time Dad got off the wall the red lights had come on. That retired our race and we finished with a DNF. Guttered was an understatement.

Heat 2 - off Grid 4. Abit of a tangle up here and there throughout the race, but the car was good. Finishing in 10th for Heat 2. The car was setup for a slick track, our car wasn't quite right for a bumpy, drivey track.

Heat 3 - we were up on grid 13. Most people would think this isnt a very good number, but for Dad its his 1st pick lucky number 😂 What a mint race this was for us finishing in 4th. Dad drove well, after some minor setup changes, the car was on point and was handling mean 👌 came in buzzing at how fun that race was to watch, we didn't even have the repercharge on our minds. Scraping through, tie on points but having a quicker lap time put us 10th overall in our group.

This means whanau we have one shot tomorrow to qualify. We will be somewhere off the back and hopefully can bring that flag home 🏁
