In the Mixed Open final we had another scorcher of a match with Ben and Wendy eventually deciding to be brave and show who wanted it the most. Massive shoutout to Hannah Plays Padel who not only travelled to Nelson to play, but reached the final and rallied most of the 10 Christchurch players who joined this competition. Massive shoutout to Q who battled through cramp to give us an entertaining match to round out the BYD Nelson Bays Social for 2026.

In the Mens C final we had another great battle with Julio and Matias taking on Q and Stuart, both pairings play regularly at Wilding Park in Christchurch, a great quality match, give them a hot minute of playing and coaching and expect to see them challenging in a B grade competition near you. Q and Stuart proving to strong on this occasion.

The BYD Nelson Bays Social was played this weekend, we had one goal, provide an opportunity for players relatively new to Padel (everyone in the South Island) to experience the same tournament format as the Sanctioned tournaments which most of these players will be aspiring to join very soon. In the woman’s C grade we had some absolutely epic matches, especially the all Christchurch semi final was an absolute screamer with Cheryl Schofield and Jess eventually taking the win after 2 hours and 15 minutes, 3 sets all going to tiebreak, eventually won 8-6 💪. In the final the our local heros of Richelle and Megan proved too strong, expect to see both these ladies pairings in a B grade tournament very soon.

Even with 73 games of Padel played across three days, close to 90 hours of padel across 3 courts, 30 tubes of bullpadelnz balls, almost 4500 livestream views, the real magic was still outside the courts, the people, the atmosphere, the friendships and the life long memories. The BYD Nelson Bays Open 2026 will go down in history as not just the first ever multi day Padel tournament in the South Island, but one of the best there ever was. Padel is competition, its fun but beyond it all, it is community ❤️.
