How cool is this! The amazing Annabel from Fernside School is always such a wonderful supporter of our shop for their schools sports equipment…and this time when she ordered 10 PVC shot puts, we were so stoked to be able to gift them for free to the school from our School & Club Give-Back Project!

This is from all of you who choose to shop with us and have nominated Fernside School to receive your donations!

I know Annabel was so grateful for them, and it meant she could add in some extra goodies for the kids to play with, like the fun rainbow balls!

Not sure what our Give-Back Project is?

At the end of 2025, we introduced our Club & School Give-Back Project — an initiative close to our hearts here at The Sport Shop. It’s all about supporting the heartbeat of New Zealand sport: our schools, our clubs, our kids, and our communities.

Here’s how it works. Every customer in our loyalty programme earns a $10 store credit for every $300 they spend. On top of that, we match it — donating an additional $10 to a school or club of their choice.

So, for every $300 one of our customers spends with us, a local school or club receives $10 to use in-store. Simple, and pretty powerful.

Enjoy your new gear Fernside School, and thanks for supporting us which means in turn we get to support you!!!

Men 🙋‍♂️ we have you sorted too…loads of hoodies for you are ridiculously priced at $60, so if your old trusty sweater is faded, raggy around the collar, the sleeves have holes, and you love a bargain, then come and get your size before they’re gone!

Or, wives, Father’s Day = sorted 😉

Ladies 💁‍♀️ We have some very fun summer activewear on its way but we have no room to fit it in, so we need to clear out some space 🥳

All women’s hoodies and sweaters, are priced to-good-to-be-true…so, my suggestion? Run super fast to nab your size up before it’s gone!!

Kerri here 👋 a big question about our nutrition products I’m often asked is, which one?!

For those who don’t know me beyond The Sport Shop, before here my background was Personal Training and Nutrition Coaching, so I thought I’ll explain a bit around why I chose each one for our shop shelves. Every one of our products is for a specific nutritional reason, and here’s the reason for these four…

Bone Broth vs Collagen vs Protein Powder vs Creatine

Which one is best for you?

They can all seem similar, but bone broth, collagen, protein powder and creatine actually do quite different things.

The best choice depends on what you’re wanting to support, ie muscle, strength, performance, recovery, joints, connective tissue health, gut healing, or simply getting more protein into your day.

And sometimes, the best answer is more than one, which means adding in multiple options to your diet can be beneficial.

Here’s the simple breakdown.

➡️PROTEIN POWDER

Best for: Muscle, recovery & increasing your daily protein

If your main goal is building or maintaining muscle, recovering from training, or simply getting enough protein each day, a complete protein powder is usually your best choice.

Protein provides the amino acids your body needs to repair and build muscle and other tissues.

Protein powder may be a good choice if you:

* Train regularly or play sport
* Want to build or maintain muscle
* Need additional protein in your diet
* Want something convenient after training
* Struggle to get enough protein through food alone
* Want a filling addition to smoothies or snacks

➡️CREATINE

Best for: Strength, power & high-intensity performance

Creatine is a little different from the other three because it isn’t a protein at all.

Creatine is a naturally occurring compound found in the body and in foods such as meat and fish. It helps your muscles rapidly produce energy during short bursts of high-intensity activity.

Creatine monohydrate is also one of the most extensively researched sports supplements.

Creatine may be a good choice if you:

* Want to improve strength or power
* Lift weights or do resistance training
* Play sports involving repeated sprints or explosive movements
* Want to support gains in muscle alongside training
* Want to improve your ability to perform repeated high-intensity efforts
* Want a simple supplement to complement your training

Unlike protein powder, creatine doesn’t replace dietary protein. Protein provides the building blocks for muscle, whereas creatine helps support the energy system your muscles use for high-intensity work.

➡️COLLAGEN

Best for: Joints, tendons, ligaments & connective tissue, skin and hair

Collagen is a type of protein, but it’s different from a typical protein powder.

It contains high levels of particular amino acids that are important components of collagen-rich tissues such as tendons, ligaments, cartilage, skin and bone.

That makes collagen popular with active people wanting to support their joints and connective tissues.

Collagen may suit you if you want to support:

* Joints
* Tendons and ligaments
* Connective tissue
* Healthy skin and hair
* Bones
* An active or ageing body

Collagen isn’t a complete protein and shouldn’t generally replace your normal protein powder if muscle building and recovery are your main goals.

➡️BONE BROTH

Is powerful for gut health and healing digestive issues, so if you have or suspect you have leaky gut (damage to your gut lining), then Bone Broth is essential. Broth contains healing compounds including collagen, glutamine, glycine and proline - these all begin to repair and rebuild your gut lining by supplying your gut with the nutrients needed to 'heal and seal' your gut lining.

Bone broth is made by slowly simmering animal bones and connective tissue, creating a warm, savoury drink containing protein and naturally occurring amino acids and minerals.

Bone broth may suit you if you:

* Want an easy way to add some extra protein to your day
* Want an alternative to sweet protein drinks
* Have body inflammation, bloating, digestive issues, global reactivity to foods (sensitivities or intolerances to many foods), body fatigue or sleepiness after eating.

So… which one should I choose?

I want to build muscle or increase my daily protein → PROTEIN POWDER 💪

I want more strength, power or high-intensity performance → CREATINE

I want to support my joints, tendons, skin, hair and connective tissue → COLLAGEN

I want yo heal my gut and improve my digestive system → BONE BROTH

Can I use more than one?

Absolutely. These products aren’t necessarily alternatives to one another — they can have completely different roles.

For example, someone who trains regularly might use protein powder to help meet their daily protein needs, creatine to support strength and performance, and collagen as part of their approach to supporting connective tissues.

Which one do you think you need most?

Pop in store and chat with me, I’m more than happy to help!

As tennis season approaches, now is your time to bring in your racquet for restringing. Rough guideline - however many times you play per week is how often you should restring per season!

Loaded with kids shoes 👟 we stock the footwear that really looks after the growth of your child’s foot. The footwear that lasts on the adventures your child goes on. The footwear that keeps your child running and climbing, while letting their feet grow well, but preventing poor foot alignment and foot issues later in life that come from poorly designed shoes.

That’s important to us, and every shoe we select is based on this.
