‼️FREE CERTIFIED RACE WALK JUDGING COURSE IN CHRISTCHURCH‼️

Canterbury and Athletics NZ are holding a level 1 Race Walk judging course at Nga Puna Wai on Wednesday the 12th of August, 6pm - 9pm.

Excellent opportunity to learn A LOT about race walking technique and exactly how judging works. After the course, you will be certified to judge at certain events.

The test is completely open book, and FREE for anyone to take part in. I would highly recommend this to people who are interested in judging, or to new race walkers who will gain valuable info with race walking technique and understanding the sport more. I did this course 10 years ago, and it helped me a lot - not only as a judge, but as an athlete and coach as well.

What a spectacular event!!!
Our NCANs raced their hardest on the muddy fields of Hagley Park North. Brilliant results all round and we could not be prouder!
A few highlights were, the Canterbury Mens U16 team claiming GOLD, of which our own Weston Bailey was a part of! 🏆
Billie Peacock claiming silver in the U12 2km event, after making a move with 600m to go, moving from 4th to 2nd and with a sprint finish to get there🥈
Our young relay team giving it their all, especially with 3/4 having just raced their individual races! Some serious fitness showing there 💪

🏃‍♀️NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS CROSS-COUNTRY TEAM ANNOUNCED 🏃‍♂️

North Canterbury will see a strong team of eight (8) racing their hardest against the best runners in New Zealand, at the national cross-country champs held in Hagley Park, Christchurch on Saturday, 1st August 2026.

Of the eight, two have been selected to represent Canterbury. Both Weston Bailey and Honor Mathieson placed in the top 8 at Canterbury Champs a couple of weeks ago, and both placed 5th in their respective races. They faced adversity in their qualifying races, Weston on the tail-end of a cold, and Honor having her number almost fly off her singlet! This is Weston and Honor's very first season of competition, making this a massive accomplishment to be selected for the regional team competing at nationals.

We have a feisty NCAN under 12 4x1km relay team, consisting of Billie Peacock, Henry George, Hunter George and Leia Beaumont. They will race under lights at 7pm, tackling the short, sharp 1km course.

We wish the team all very the best at the New Zealand Championships! 💛💚🏃‍♀️🏃

Tātai Whetū Waitaha is hosting a Female Athlete Health Conference bringing together experts across psychology, nutrition, physiotherapy and female athlete health.

Open to athletes, parents, coaches and anyone wanting to learn more about female athlete health.
