So after 6 weeks of having the casts on, it was time to remove, assess and re shoe with casts. No nasty bacteria underneath the cast, which was very positive considering we have had wet and warm weather yet again in the Waikato.
Not a lot of improvement in the hoof wall which is expected in only 6 weeks into the process. However the hooves are flaring much less due to the cast, which is fantastic for getting growth to the bottom of the hoof. Healing hooves takes a long time. But the horse is happy, comfortable and moving great.

Nice Equilox crack patch repair on this cute youngster. Equilox combined with fibreglass cloth for added strength. This should hold for 6 weeks helping the crack to knit at the top so we can begin growing it out. Better option to the previous one now our weather is drier, or so we believed. Fingers crossed, we got it done and set well before the rain.

This cool dude had some X-rays done, showing thin soles in both front feet and mild negative planter angle (NPA) on both hind feet. Relatively common things to see in thoroughbreds, some need more help than others.
He has been sound all winter, but as soon as the ground went hard, sore to both front feet. Note he is predominantly retired and living a good life in the paddock.
He has had seedy toe which we have got under control after regular treatment from client and myself applying bluestone bang. This is seen on the front feet, particularly the left fore where the toe appears to be broken away. It shows how aggressive seedy toe can be even with treatment.
So after assessing X-rays with the Vet and agreeing on a plan, he got some new kicks. Full pads and putty on the front feet to not only protect and provide comfort, but they will also promote sole growth and thickness. For the hinds wedged pads and putty to correct NPA and promote heel growth whilst providing support to the digital cushion and caudel aspect of the hoof and limb.

Nice crack repair earlier this week. Opted for a screw crack repair over glue due to still getting a good amount of rain. Glue tends to struggle in wet conditions. Will revisit this in a couple weeks to see progress
