🚨 WITHOUT VOLUNTEERS, THERE WILL BE NO QUEENSTOWN JUNIOR ATHLETICS IN 2026/2027 🚨

This is a call for help from our community.

After many years of dedicated service, several of our long-term volunteers and committee members are stepping down. Unless new volunteers come forward, Queenstown Junior Athletics will unfortunately have to go into hibernation next season.

🏃‍♀️ We urgently need a Junior Athletics Coordinator to help lead the club. The role does not have to be done by one person—the responsibilities can be shared across a small team, with one person overseeing the season.

Key tasks include:
✅ Coordinating Tuesday training sessions
✅ Managing registrations and communications
✅ Organising competition information
✅ Helping with Facebook, emails and administration
✅ Liaising with Southland Athletics and other stakeholders

💙 You won’t be doing it alone. Our current committee is committed to supporting and mentoring new volunteers to ensure a smooth handover.

If you’ve ever thought about giving back to our community or have skills that could help, now is the time. Without volunteers, hundreds of local children will miss the opportunity to participate in athletics.

Combined Junior 7+, Senior and Masters Meet, Saturday 7 March, 1.00pm Surrey Park.

NOTE: This is a low-key meeting as most of our officials are in Auckland for the NZ Champs. We will need assistance from parents, partners and seniors to help organise and run the different events.

The intention here is to pick a few events to try and sharpen up for what you will be doing at Primary School, Secondary School or Masters Champs later this month. You should not be trying to do everything on the programme!

No pre-entry will be required, please just turn up on the day, 30min before your event, check in at the finish line tent and be ready to go at the approximate time below.

This event is FREE to take part in, however for those families that can afford it we would love to see a donation of a can of food or cereal/pasta/biscuits that we can then pass along to the Southland Foodbank.

🔺️🔺️ATTENTION🔺️🔺 ️Entries are now closed for this weekend and there will be a couple of changes to the program due to entry numbers. Please be prepared for the program to potentially run ahead of time ⏪️⏰️, or if there are delays, behind time ⏩️⏰️.

Below are a couple we can highlight, but please pay attention to announcements 📢 made at the track over the weekend.

First on the track tomorrow, Day 1, will be the 1500m, with lower numbers of 13/14's, all grades will likely run together at 10am. This will then allow the Senior 1000m to start early, and likewise the Senior 60m and following Junior 100m races.

On Day 2, we will bring forward the 14B/14G Long Jump to 1030am, to allow the 11B/11Gs to do Long Jump at 1100am, to avoid the clash with 11B Shotput at 1130am.

It looks like the weather is going to be good, Saturday is sunny ☀️ with cloud 🌤 increasing, 17°C, with westerly winds increasing during the day, changing to south westerly and a chance of rain 🌦 on Sunday, 14°C. It is Southland, so please come prepared for all weather conditions 😁

Entry fees: Juniors $1 per event. Senior Meet is $6 for registered athletes or $8 for unregistered.
