Early bird entries open today for Rotorua Marathon. The course has been reversed so this will be the first year for completing this course from the opposite direction.

A full week for me last week, followed by some stock work that needed doing over the weekend.

I enjoyed it too. Young cattle, good weather, and time outside doing the sort of work I genuinely like.

But it got me thinking about something this Monday morning:

How long does it take you to feel properly recovered after a really big week?

A good night's sleep?

A quiet Saturday?

The whole weekend?

Or are you rolling into Monday still carrying some of last week's workload?

Because one of the first changes we notice isn't necessarily that we can't do the things we've always done.

We can still put in the long day.
Still climb the hill.
Still get the stock work done.

Sometimes the change is simply how long we pay for it afterwards.

That's an interesting measure of capacity.

So, Monday morning check-in:

πŸ‘‡ How long does a big week take you to recover from these days?

17/08/2026

You don't feel old when you go to bed.

You feel old when you try to get out of it. πŸ˜…

That first roll over.
Feet onto the floor.
A few stiff steps while everything seems to remember how it's supposed to move.

Sound familiar?

It's easy to shrug and say, β€œI'm just getting older.”

But age isn't always the whole story.

Sometimes that slower start is worth getting curious about. Has yesterday's workload been matched by enough movement, nourishment, sleep and recovery to help you bounce back?

Because one of the patterns worth noticing isn't simply what your body can still do.

It's how much you're paying for it afterwards.

A rainy winters morning might be a good time to notice the difference.

How quickly does your body find its stride in the morning?

17/08/2026

What's the first thing your body says to you when you get out of bed?

For some people it's:
😬 Tight calves
😬 Stiff hips
😬 Sore back
😬 Achy knees
😬 A few steps before everything loosens up

Most people assume that's "just getting older."

But what if it's actually your body reporting yesterday's workload?

πŸ‘‡ What's your body's Monday message?

14/08/2026

Ever wake up feeling like you've aged five years overnight?
Back's slow to loosen, knees are protesting, and you're negotiating every move until things finally click.

Truth is, that stiffness is not just the price of getting older - it is your body quietly warning you that yesterday's load did not get cleared out.

Letting these signs slide is how you lose more ground than you realize - it happens slow, until suddenly it costs you more to do the same job.

If mornings are getting tougher, it is time for a rethink, not just a push-through.

What if your body has been trying to tell you something... long before pain arrived?

Most changes don't happen overnight.

They happen quietly.

A little more stiffness getting out of bed.

A little longer to recover after a busy day.

A little less confidence bending, lifting or moving the way you used to.

It's easy to put it down to age.

But often these are simply signals, your body's way of asking for a little more attention.

Learning to notice these early changes could be one of the most important things you do for your future health and capability.

I'd love to know, what's one thing your body used to do easily that now takes a little more effort?

The body is always communicating.

The question is...

Are we listening?

This weekend I'm building a stock flood gate.

As I lift rails, hold the gate in place, tighten strainers and grip tools, I'm reminded just how much we ask of our bodies without really thinking about it.

The body is remarkable.

It adapts to the work we do every day.

A fencer's hands adapt differently from an office worker.

A shearer's shoulders adapt differently from a gardener.

A contractor's hips and back adapt differently from a cyclist.

The photo below is a great example. Years of gripping hand tools have changed the shape and strength of the muscles around the thumb. That's not a problem in itself; it's the body doing exactly what it's designed to do.

The challenge comes when we only ever ask the body to work in one direction.

Over time, muscles tighten, joints lose options, and movement becomes less efficient.

That's why I believe just as much in the antidote as the workload.

Not because work is bad.

Because work deserves recovery.

A few minutes of the right movement each day can help restore balance, protect joint function, and keep you capable for the long haul.

After all, the body you rely on tomorrow is being shaped by what you ask of it today.

What's one physical task your body has adapted to over the years?

Most people don't need another fitness programme.

They need clarity.

If your body is feeling older than your birth certificate first thing in the morning, here's the good news:

What you're noticing is common.

There's usually a reason for it.

And there are practical steps you can take.

That's exactly why I created the Future Freedom Check.

βœ” Understand what's happening
βœ” Learn why it happens
βœ” Discover what to do next

No pressure.
No judgement.
Just clarity.

πŸ‘‡ DM me FREEDOM and I'll send it through.

Why do so many hardworking people feel older first thing in the morning?

Stiff getting out of bed.

Tight hips.

Achy knees.

A body that takes longer to get moving than it used to.

Most people assume it's age.

Maybe.

But often it's something else.

πŸ‘‰ The workload has stayed the same...

while recovery has quietly fallen behind.

The body isn't trying to make life difficult.

It's sending signals.

The question is:

Are we listening?

πŸ‘‡ What's the first thing you notice when you wake up in the morning?
