Anglesea Stud

After some better recent form, Lady Anglesea is off to Hawera in the last today. Backing up from last weekend, where she didn't see out the mile as well as we would have thought, she returns to 1400m with Bruno Queiroz aboard. We've decided this is likely her last chance, so the side winkers have come off and the blinkers have gone on to try and have her as sharp as possible.

We have My Alibi (Roc de Cambes x Hot Pursuit) in R6 at New Plymouth today. She has been training very well and I like her chances of a top 3 finish!

Finally saw some of the real Lady Anglesea today as she hit the line well in R5 Ōtaki, almost making it to 2nd. Super ride from Toni Davies, and fingers crossed Posie as we know her on the farm, is turning the corner on form

Last chance today for Lady Anglesea (Proisir x Belle Fleur) as she takes on a strongish field in the Pearl Series Race at Otaki (R5). She has Toni Davies aboard who is in great form so it is now all down to the 6yo daughter of Proisir!

Following up on my post a few weeks ago about Ferrario, the Contributer gelding we sold to Patrick Payne in Melbourne. Back then, I mentioned he’d beaten Wigmore, who has since gone on to win the Group 1 South Australian Derby. Today, Ferrario made debut at Donald in Victoria and, despite being five lengths last at one stage, stormed home to win with ease. A great result for his new owners!

Lady Anglesea is out for possibly her last run for us after a run of below expectation form. Her best friend Amber is back aboard and she gets a H10 at Woodville (R9) to see how she handles the mile. Fingers crossed for a change in fortunes and a return to previous form.

The next in our Horses in Racing series is Indian Pacific (5yo Echoes of Heaven x Rhyme). Known by his friends as Bibble, Dobby and a host of other names, this friendly gelding has taken some time but the penny is starting to drop.
Out of Rhyme (Spinning World x Limerick), a mare we sourced from Rod and Gina at Windsor Park as part of a dispersal they were having, she is a half sister to Gr.2 Eight Carat winner Capella. Rhyme, a winner of 3 races herself with 4 x 2nds and 4 x 3rds, has had 6 to the races, for 5 winners, most winning multiple races.
Indian Pacific has continued to improve each race, and broke maidens over the mile at Whanganui, then 2 races later saluted the judge again in his first time over ground at Otaki 2100m. His half sibling Master Poet won over 3400m and another half sibling Bruno Stars won over 3800m in Australia, so we know he can stay.
Currently on a short spell, he will be back in the very capable hands of trainer Geoff Haigh (Levin) shortly with an eye toward some spring racing over ground, and hopefully up to 2 miles! His current stats are 9 starts, 2 wins and a 3rd with prizemoney of $37k.

The 2nd in our series of our horses in racing is My Alibi (Roc de Cambes x Hot Pursuit), or Alison to her close friends. We have a 15% stake in this one which we purchased off Gavelhouse back in April 2024 in conjunction with Eales Racing for the meager price of $8,800.
Raced lightly by The Oaks stud prior, she came to us with 4 starts for not much. What appealed to me was the breeding - Roc de Cambes over a mare by Spartacus. Normally anything by Spartacus I would avoid like the plague, however when Roc de Cambes is put over a Spartacus mare, his winners to runners is something like 92%
Since coming in the stable, she has had 17 starts for 3 wins, 2 seconds and a third and won over $80k, well and truly paying for herself. She is back after a break this Saturday in R10 where she is in the R75 1400m.

It's been a while since we have done any kind of update on our horses in racing, so I thought I'd start a series where we take a more in depth look at what we have going around right now. First cab off the rank is Lady Anglesea.
We purchased her Dam, Belle Fleur (Danzero x Diva Belle) at the Karaka May sale in 2019, for the bargain price of $1,500 and she was in foal to Proisir. The mare was bought to go to new stallion at the time Jon Snow, so she was immediately sent down to Clearview Park Stud where a few months later a lovely filly foal was born.
The foal, called Posie in the paddock, was broken in as a 3yo by Josh Shaw Racing before heading off to Lisa Latta Racing for her racing career.
After a slowish start to her career, she showed us her potential at just her 3rd raceday start, breaking maidens at Waverley in March last year. The time she ran that gave us confidence that she could gallop and exciting times lay in store. As of now, we haven't got to see her realise this talent again, though her last start Whanganui she showed more than she has for a while. She has been hard to get a line on, we thought she would stay so prepared her for longer distances, but this turned out not to be the case. It also took us a while to gather she preferred the track more on the heavy side so that is where we will focus next. Fingers crossed Posie can respond!
She is well bred out of the great "Belle" family so will be a handy acquisition to the broodmare band post racing.

Lady Anglesea (Proisir x Belle Fleur) is back to the races today, though we would have preferred a heavier track. She is in R6 at Whanganui in what is a small but even field and she has the services of in form apprentice Toni Davies. Fingers crossed!
