When we all had cheque books.
15 years of entry forms, before we went online.

From beer to chocolate milk, Local Directories for years.....then Bay Trust came to the party.

For the first event they had to run up Church Street, through the gap beside the ANZ Bank. The finish area was the grass area of Moody Place car park behind Eastern Bay motors. DB had heaps of product!

During the golden years we would receive 500-600 entries by mail.

The good old days!

Memories are priceless

The Opotiki Volunteer Fire Brigade have been helping out with traffic management at the start line and all the way to the Motu Road since day dot.

The fire brigade challenged the local police for many years. The loser had to buy the first round of beers......problem was, each year, the winner had already finished a case of beer before the other team arrived home.

Local patron Barry Hennessy, Deputy Fire Chief, competed in the first ever Motu event in 1994. He'll be on the start line this year!
The Opotiki Volunteer Fire brigade will be at it for one last hurrah in 2024!
