Another planting season underway lately.
We have had the assisstance of ten University of Canterbury Nz forestry school students out planting for the second year in a row.
It's been fantastic to have had them out in the forest learning some practical aspects to forestry.
The experience of planting in both logged cutover and farmland has given the future foresters valuable insight into the practical side of Silviculture.

We attended the 2023 Southern wood council awards on Friday 19th of May.
This was in conjunction with Competenz/ Te Pukenga and was a great night out seeing the success of various crews around Otago, Southland and South Canterbury.

Fantastic result with Jaycob Baker winning the silviculture forestry trainee of the year.
Jaycob also received his national certificate in thinning.
Congratulations and a well deserved win for Jaycob.

We will be looking for planters for our busy planting season starting late may.
Our season will be around 4 months of planting with ongoing work available for those wanting to progress into thinning afterwards.

Planting Tree planting is the main seasonal job in forestry. Tree planting is done over the winter months (June-September). Employment can sometimes extend into the spring if work is available release spraying the newly planted trees. 

Wet humid conditions promoting the growth of lots of fungi in the forest.
Always lots of flora and fauna to make the job interesting

Douglas fir thinning in the S**g river forest lately. Trees are around 24 years of age.
Thinning some of the areas that were exposed to the weather over the years but have shaped up well now.
The trees in the sheltered parts of the block are very tall and large in volume.

Planting season 2021 is finally done!
A huge thanks to my small but productive crew who gave it their all this season to ensure we got through the season well.
I am so grateful for their commitment, reliablity and hard work over the season.
Finished off planting a really neat property surrounded by kanuka, amazing views and prolific birdlife which just adds to the overall pleasure.

Great variety of planting this season.
Started off restocking logged areas of Herbert forest before heading out planting various farm forestry areas.
All planting will be of mutual benefit of growth of timber and carbon sequestration
