FISH HARD...RESPECT TANGAROA HARDER ๐๐ช๐ค I'm a waterman, fisherman, surfer that tries to live life the best way I know how, in and around the ocean.
That sound from a Saltiga is symphony to my ears ๐๐ถ๐
This is XBraid NZ braid that I can totally trust spooled with Pentagram PE 1.5 it's thin, smooth but strong๐ช

It's not always about size but Quality... these are insane eating!!๐
I'm using the Vexed Fishing Inchiku 100g Jig on my Olympic Protone 6 paired up Daiwa 15SJ, spooled with XBraid NZ Jigman Ultra perfect for slow pitch jigging ๐ฃ
Has to be one of my favorite eating table fish but have to be careful while filleting due to its scales spikes and gill plate!

You could've walked across that bait ball.
Every drop with the Palms Slow Blatt Cast Wide 40g Akakin colour Jig got plenty of attention and would get smashed soon as it hit the water but honestly, watching that massive school of mackerel lite up on the surface like that was nearly as good as the bite itself.
Days like this are what it's all about with beautiful scenery โ good mates, bent rods, stocking up while there's plenty of bait everywhere with smoking a few of these oily treats as well ๐ค๐ฃ

Nothing fancy, just a lure doing what it was made to do ๐ฃ
Been having a blast throwing the Hayabusa Jigging Sabiki Long Cast 60g. One of those lures that's just plain fun to fish โ long casts, heaps of action, and always keeps you wondering what's going to smash it next.
I swapped sabiki hooks also added Hayabusa assist hooks on tail end seems to work very well giving extra swimming action.
Hard to beat that feeling when the rod loads up while lure fishing! ๐ค

"Where have the Bream Bay work ups gone"!?!
If youโve spent any time out on the water here lately, youโve probably noticed a massive change. The legendary surface action we used to rely on has completely gone quiet.
The reality is, commercial trawlers have been working incredibly close to the coast, scooping up massive amounts of the bait fish that anchor our local ecosystem. When you strip out all the smaller fish, the big snapper and kingfish have no reason to stick aroundโand the ecosystem suffers.
Iโm just an ocean lover who cares deeply about our local waters, but seeing our bay targeted like this is devastating. I totally respect that these people are doing a job to provide food on the table for their families, but we as a whole community the people also would like to rely on having a sustainable source of Kai Moana for our families too. So when commercial operations out-compete the local marine life for food, the bigger predatory fish move deep or leave entirely. I'm sharing this purely out of a personal, honest concern for Aotearoa's marine environments. We need sustainable boundaries if we want future generations to experience a healthy thriving ecosystem right?!
This commercial vessel was moving parallel to the island from one end to other in a "mowing the lawns" pattern not sure why that is also can't confirm if was fishing or not but either way have often seen them fishing in close and around in Bay. Either if this vessel is a Trawler or Purse Seine doesn't change the fact for my concerns, as both methods use the same technology to locate schools of fish. Also both use nets in hauling big loads of fish. It would be nice to start seeing some of those classic Bream Bay workups more often with signs of biomass again or even just sight seeing some whales which I haven't seen in a longtime and would see quite on the regular just off the chicks but also catch some decent fish that are in prime fatty healthy condition.
Also mention it's unfortunate how hard it can be to convince the people who currently run our fisheries industry to believe we as the people of NZ truly rely on these waters around us a main sustainable food source and want future generations who can also rely on healthy source of food as fish is such a huge part of our diet living in NZ.
Just speaking as a highly passionate ocean lover who wants to protect what we have. You don't need a certificate to care about the sea, just a genuine respect for it.
Let me know if you've noticed this too and whatโs the solution here? Should there be stricter commercial exclusion zones?

Anyone else just froth on lure fishing? ๐ค
The Palms Slow Blatt has such a mint action on the drop, just like how these get down fast with good hang time. Fish straight up smash it...how fun! ๐
Who else loves fishing lures over bait? ๐ฃ

Some sessions just reminds me how much confidence good gear gives you.
My honest review on the Assassin Supernova has impressed me with its balance, crisp action, and sensitivity. You can feel what's happening at the lure, but when a good fish loads up, it's got plenty of power in reserve without feeling heavy in the hand.
It's the sort of rod that's comfortable to fish all day and gives you confidence where it counts most also casting is effortless and satisfying too!
๐ฃ What's your go-to rod at the moment?
