Mānawatia a Matariki
As we celebrate the rising of Matariki , we take time to reflect on the year that has passed, honour those who came before us, celebrate the present with gratitude, and look ahead with hope and purpose.
Matariki reminds us of the importance of connection, whānau, community, and giving back—values that are at the heart of everything we do at The Y Taranaki.
As we gather with loved ones this weekend, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on their journey, celebrate achievements, and set intentions for the year ahead.
From our Y whānau to yours, we wish you a safe, happy and meaningful Matariki & Puanga weekend.

Congratulations to all those who tried their best at Speed Climbing at The Crux Climbing Gym in 2025.
Ngā mihi nui to our sponsor PAK’nSAVE New Plymouth who have generously provided the "Perfect Descent Auto-Belay" that makes it all possible and prizes!
With a combination of 150 of the "lowest times" and "most runs" posted here on social media and outside our wall it really showcases the commitment of those giving it a go to absorbing the mantra "slow is smooth, smooth is fast".
Twelve of the "lowest times" and "most runs" were randomly selected to receive vouchers(see underlined winners) and can be picked up from any staffed climbing session which is back OPEN for climbing whether it be first timers, more speed runs, brand new roped climbs on the 15 degree overhang and a freshly reset boulder wall section from 10am-1pm this Saturday 3rd January 2026 .
A final thanks to our timer technicians and and buddy check/safety watchers who are essential to climbing as a sport.
