Only a few know what goes on behind the scenes. The crew getting together on weekends and late nights getting things ready. Sacrificing time with their families for the team. They do this for the love of the sport and the thrill of seeing that car go down the track for 5 seconds.

To the wives, partners, girlfriends, sons, daughters and grandchildren of the team. We are so grateful to have all your support. Without you we couldn’t do it. You keep us fed, watered and cheer us on from the sideline. Just because you don’t have a tool in your hand doesn’t mean you don’t get that car down the track.

TWO NITRO FUNNY CARS SET TO SHAKE MASTERTON AT THE 58TH NZ NATIONALS

Fans at the upcoming NZ Nationals are in for something special, with not one but two Nitro Funny Cars expected to fire up during the weekend.

One of them will be a familiar name to local motorsport fans. Masterton’s own Dwane Garrett will be bringing out his red Camaro Outlaw Nitro Funny Car, a car that delivers the thunder, flames and raw nitro power that only fuel cars can produce. Dwane explains his passion in just a short sentence; "I want to go fast...and bring nitro to the Wairarapa".

Dwane’s appearance is a great story for local fans. Along with his local crew, he has worked his way right through the drag racing ranks over the years, starting out with street cars before moving into dragsters, then progressing through Top Alcohol and Top Doorslammer before stepping up to the ultimate level with a Nitro Funny Car. It is a huge achievement, and his trophy wall is testament to the success this team has had on the national level - something the local community can and should be extremely proud of.

Joining him will be Wayne Curry from New Plymouth, who will be making his first event in his Nitro Funny Car. Wayne is also an experienced drag racer, well known for putting on a wild show in his insane Methanol-fuelled Altered, but this meeting will be an important step for both driver and team as they begin getting to grips with the new car. Saturday will be focused on licensing and shakedown passes as they work through the setup and get comfortable with the combination.

If everything goes to plan, fans could be treated to the incredible sight of the two nitro cars running side by side on Sunday.

Nitro Funny Cars are rarely seen in New Zealand, let alone in Masterton, and the chance to see two of them at the same meeting is a major drawcard for the NZ Nationals.

An experience that's not to be missed; you won't just hear these cars - you will feel them!
