Last week our team was represented at the NZ Events Association's annual conference Eventing the Future, which brings together event professionals, venues, suppliers and industry leaders from across Aotearoa.

Being part of these national conversations is important for the Trafalgar Centre and the wider Nelson events industry. Building strong relationships with event organisers and industry partners helps keep Nelson front of mind when opportunities arise, while giving us the chance to learn from what is happening at venues around the country.

We were also proud to contribute to the conference programme, with our Venues Manager Mark facilitating a panel alongside venue colleagues from Venues Otautahi, BNZ Theatre and the New Zealand International Convention Centre who shared the stories behind some of New Zealand’s exciting new venues. The discussion explored how these venues came to life, the journey through opening, lessons learned along the way, and how they plan to maximise these facilities for their communities over the next 50 years.

Having our team invited to contribute to conversations like these is also a great reflection of the role the Trafalgar Centre plays within New Zealand’s venue industry.

The Trafalgar Centre already plays an important part in New Zealand’s event landscape, and staying connected, sharing knowledge and building relationships across the industry will help us continue to strengthen what we can offer here in Nelson.

It’s all part of keeping our region connected to the national events industry and creating more opportunities for great events and experiences in Nelson. 🙌

Our back of house corridor is getting a much needed facelift, with brand new carpet going down.

It might not be an area our audiences ever see, but over the years this hallway has been walked by plenty of performers, artists, speakers and event crews before they head out to entertain thousands of people in the venue.

Back of house is where they prepare, relax, wait for showtime and probably experience a few pre-show nerves! So making it feel warm, welcoming and comfortable is important to us.

We put a lot of thought into creating a great experience for everyone who walks through our front doors and we want to make sure the people coming through the back door to entertain us get a great experience too.

Not the most glamorous renovation we’ve ever shared… but sometimes it’s the little things behind the scenes that make a big difference.

We are excited to announce that Che-Fu The Musician will be performing at the Trafalgar Centre on 10 October!

An Evening with Che Fu & The Kratez will see the pioneering artist perform Navigator, alongside a career-spanning selection of favourites, joined by his powerhouse live band The Kratez and special guests Aaradhna, Betty-Anne and King Kapisi.

Released in 2001, Navigator debuted at No.1 on the New Zealand Albums Chart before going on to achievemulti-platinum status, cementing its place as one of the most important albums in NewZealand music history.

A fearless blend of soul, reggae, hiphop, rock and Pacific influences, Navigator captured the voice of a generation. From the soaring optimism of MistyFrequencies and the timeless groove of Fade Away to the unmistakable Waka, the album became a defining sound track for Aotearoa, earning wide spread acclaim while helping shape the future of New Zealand music.

Twenty-five years on, its themes of identity, resilience, unity and hope remain as relevant as ever.

Inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame earlier this year, few artists have had the cultural impact of Che Fu. Throughout a career spanning more than three decades, he has consistently broken new ground, using music as a vehicle for storytelling, social commentary and celebration. His distinctive voice, thoughtful songwriting and genre-defying sound have inspired generations of artists and helped redefine what New Zealand music could be.

For this anniversary tour, audiences can expect far more than a retrospective.

Backed by The Kratez, Che Fu’s longstanding band, they will bring Navigator to life in full celebrating both the album's enduring legacy and the remarkable catalogue that followed. Joining him are three of Aotearoa's most revered artists. Soul powerhouse Aaradhna, whose unmistakable voice and award-winning catalogue have made her one of NewZealand's most celebrated contemporary artists, brings her signature blend of soul, R&B and pacific storytelling. Betty-Anne, the legendary vocalist who rose to prominence with iconic Kiwi band Ardijah, has been a defining voice in New Zealand music for more than four decades, renowned for her vocals and enduring influence on Polynesian soul. Completing the line-up is hip hop pioneer King Kapisi, one of the country's most respected MCs and cultural trailblazers, whose groundbreaking career helped shape New Zealand hip hop and Pacific music.

An Evening with Che Fu & The Kratez is a celebration of one of the greatest albums ever made in Aotearoa by an artist whose music has become woven into the fabric of New Zealand culture. Don’t miss your chance to experience Navigator live, 25 years on.

Tickets on sale 12pm Monday 3 August from Ticketmaster.
