It was another great night at walking football last night, with another 5-team session. And as usual, the Sprig + Fern Brewing Co. Walking Football Nelson Sponsors League has been shuffled again. But only the middle 3 teams. Top and unfortunately bottom, stay the same for now…

Homes by Orange stay in the top spot for this term with 3 wins and a loss, but sneak into second with 3 wins and a draw. Silkynz continue their challenges without their regular team captain (and sponsor) who's currently on injury break. But I can confirm, although the team struggled to score goals last night, yours truly did win the ‘player of the night’, winding back the clock and proving that class is just not temporary… 🤣🤣

We’re also currently sitting at 8 teams entered for this year’s Prostate Cup. We want to fill the stadium, so if you want to enter a team (or want to give it a go), please get in touch. See the poster below.

And don't forget we've got a Bingo Fundraiser next Tuesday (11th) at Sprig + Fern The Meadows - come along and have some fun.

Hello everyone, and welcome to Term 3…!!

We kicked off last night with 5 teams eager to get back into things after a couple of weeks off and we had some great games played in wonderful spirit. Most games were very close and there was excellent banter between the members.

We’ve reset the Sprig + Fern Brewing Co. Walking Football Nelson Sponsors League table for this term, and congratulations to Absolute Energy for taking the early lead.

Scotty 'Tip Top' Davis was the legend of the night.

We headed to the Sprig + Fern The Meadows for our after match and also drew the raffle ticket winners for the Pan Pacific Masters Tournament fundraising raffle. Thanks to everyone who purchased tickets and congratulations again to the following winners:
1. Richard Kirby ($1000)
2. Brendon Hodgson ($100)
3. Nicky Reid ($50)

The draw was videoed and posted on our walking football nelson page.

Walking Football Nelson Raffle Update...

THANK YOU to everyone who purchased tickets for our Walking Football Nelson raffle fundraiser. ALL of our tickets are now sold! The funds raised will help us get to the Pan Pacific Masters Tournament in Australia this coming November and to represent our region.

The draw will be held at Sprig + Fern The Meadows on Wednesday 22nd July, around 8pm, after our standard walking football session. For those of you interested in witnessing the draw live, you’re more than welcome to come along to the Sprig and be present. Alternatively, we will have it live on our page, https://www.facebook.com/walkingfootballnelson

Thanks again to everyone who purchased a ticket.

And for those who missed out on a ticket but still want to help, we’re hosting a Bingo Night at Sprig + Fern The Meadows on Tuesday 11th August. So, come along to that for a great fun night. And what’s more, to add a little bit more fun to the night, we’ve just signed our 100th fulltime member at Walking Football Nelson (although some have moved on since we started back in 2019...) so we’re going to use our Walking Football Member’s Nicknames as the Bingo calls, rather than the traditional ones. And there’s some great names amongst those 100.

Cheers – the Walking Football Nelson team

With a couple of weekly social posts missed, Term 2 finished on a high last week with some very tight matches. Smithy received the knee brace for a consistent performance. And the last aftermatch of the term was hosted at .

It's also congratulations to the winner of the Sprig + Fern Brewing Co. Walking Football Nelson Sponsors League - Term 2...

With only 1 point between the top two teams, a big congratulations to Homes by Orange!

And the remaining 4 teams were only separated by 9 points as well, so a couple of results reversed on the night everything could have been completely different.

We have a break now and return for Term 3 on the 22nd July.

The Sprig + Fern Brewing Co. Walking Football Nelson league is hotting up and halfway through term 2, the teams once again battled it out. The Sprig team took the honors on the night, with 3 wins and a loss, and look to now build on their form and get themselves off the bottom of the ladder. At the other end, continue to stay in first place. Comfortably? The next 6 weeks will tell...

Legend of the night went to Meghan (Moo Too) Jamieson, with a stunning performance. Her and JV were seen looking into the knee brace for proof of an award beverage as it was completely forgotten last week. There was something there, and Meghan went home early.

The after-match was held at Sprig + Fern Milton Street - thanks team!

Last night in the Sprig + Fern Brewing Co. Walking Football Nelson sponsors league, we saw 21 goals being scored between the 5 teams and secure themselves comfortably at the top of the table. With 7 weeks of the term to go though, are they safe...

In the photos this week, there's always those kids since the age of 5 who just can't work out which way around the bib goes. Clearly, they haven't improved over the years! And Julian (hairy spag) Kett shows off his 10-pin bowling technique when distributing the ball from goal to one of his players. Needless to say, the ball was thrown at a tremendous pace and was not controlled easily by the defender! There's really no need for that sort of force at walking football, but it is JK after all...

And there was no knee brace handed over this week as last week's recipient didn't acknowledge the rules and replace the "beverage" inside the brace with a new one. He did however remove the drink that he was awarded last week and placed it in his fridge - not thinking it may have been there for a reason and that perhaps he should replace it ready to be handed on to the next legend. Oh well, Dave (the repairman) Sweetman will learn for next time!

The after-match rehydration session was held at Sprig + Fern The Meadows and the mushroom pizzas were amazing!

Just the one change in positions after Wednesday nights Sprig + Fern Brewing Co. Walking Football Nelson session. And although Honda Store Nelson and Absolute Energy share the same points, Absolute unfortunately didn’t win a game all night so Honda sneak above them.

Silky Saws - New Zealand, Homes by Orange, and stay in their same spots for now.

We had 5 teams on the night, with a couple of them having subs, so our membership numbers are good at this stage of the year, and as we move into darker nights and colder temperatures, being inside makes it all the better! However, we didn't see our newest members Mr Ian Coles and Mr Ross Alvy? Have they given up already...

Player of the Night was Dave (The Repairman) Berryman, showing a consistent and continued improved performance. Well done Dave.

After match was at . Cheers guys.
