🥊 QUEENSLAND INTERNATIONAL GOLDEN GLOVES 🇳🇿🇦🇺

What an incredible week in Brisbane! Boxing Queensland Inc. put on an outstanding tournament — one of the biggest amateur boxing events you’ll find anywhere. 🥊🔥

This was our second year attending, and it’s definitely staying on our annual boxing calendar!

Lydia boxed great, winning her quarterfinal against a very good Australian boxer on points. In the semifinal she faced another Australian representative with international experience. Lydia went down on points, but it was a highly competitive fight and a great test of where she’s at.

Her opponent went on to beat the Japanese champion in the final and take gold 🥇

We came to Brisbane to test ourselves against the best in the open division and prepare for the New Zealand Championships next month.

Job done Team ✅🇳🇿🥊

🥊 BRISBANE GOLDEN GLOVES — SEMIFINAL

Lydia lost her semifinal on points to a very experienced Australian representative, but showed she can match it with boxers competing at an international level.

Lyds fought a great fight, especially considering she has only had 15 fights and is still in her second year of boxing.

We had the option of entering her in the 13–21 fights A Grade division, but Lydia only wanted to come to Brisbane if she could compete in the Open division and test herself against some of the best international female boxers.

And that’s exactly what she has done.

We’ll take yesterday’s quarterfinal win, the good even semifinal, and everything we’ve learned from both fights as an overall win. These experiences will only make Lydia a better boxer and help take her to the next level.

A huge mihi to the Canterbury team and coaches for always supporting us whenever we’ve needed you. Your help and friendship are appreciated ❤️🖤

We are incredibly proud of you Lydia 🇳🇿

The journey continues. 👊🏽
