Had a great last week of the season with where we headed south in the hope of dry fly action. Kinda slow for periods but enough rising fish to well and truly make up for that. Epic fun.

doing what he does best with a lunker on a stunning day out. It's the first of a few days out together as we dust off the cobwebs after long guiding stints. Heaven.

Trophy Trout are special - no matter how many you have landed. Each story is compelling and unique. This big boy was just a faint smudge feeding in front of the willow tree in shot. While there was no way of predicting it's true size, it looked substantial. A good cast and snappy hook set was followed by a tumbling jump which had us gasping as he hit the water with a heavy splash. Many nervous moments ensued as Dave negotiated the myriad of obstacles, not the least of which was the willow itself. Get in touch, write your story.

Opening day was cold and we had to be happy with a short section of river but got into some nice fish. Cobwebs slowly being erased.

On a day where the air temperature never got over 7deg Celcius, myself and had to graft a bit to get fish to eat. We both managed to lose some pretty big fish which was a bummer but those we landed were solid and more than welcome on a bleak day. Roll on summer...

This fish. Wow.
I was filming some epic footage with and a long way from the road. They suggested I go again, having landed a stunning Jack, so in I went. Cory was filming and had just hit pause (as the water looked less promising with the euro rig I was using) and of course I hooked up on this tank...
It's the way it goes sometimes, but after a titanic battle, I landed probably the best conditioned Rainbow of my life. Beast mode.

A big rainbow like this is something of a rarity for me coming from Nelson. I was coaxed out from behind the camera by and to join the fun. This is one of two wonderful fish that came up tight on the euro gear in short order. Cheers fellas!
