Last weekend, Bluff Hill entered a men’s team in the Havelock North Men’s Classic. It’s been a long time since Bluff has been able to enter a men’s team in any competition. Our team of Peter Hug, Peter Hill, Ray Coley and Alan Schofield did us proud. The Classic consists of 4’s, Singles, and Doubles over two days of bowling so lots of experience was gained and we hope it encourages others to give it a go.

Some of us stepped out in style and put our best foot forward tonight. We had a full house playing and, judging by the noise levels, the competition was lively. Lyndsey took out the top spot with 22, Rachael took second place on 19 and Bradley picked up third placing with 18. The evening wound up with a very tasty pot luck dinner.

Some of us struggled to make double figures tonight but there were still some great bowls played. Top score went to Paddy on 16 with Maurice close behind on 15 and Sue in third place on 14.

Once again we had a hardy bunch of bowlers who braved the chilly temperatures to enjoy an evening’s bowling. Margaret was on top form taking first place with 17 points. Rachael and Di D both finished on 15 points so played off for the minor placings, with Di edging in for second spot.

A few Bluff Hill bowlers have been out and about bowling. Firstly, Erika, Di D, Paddy and Els bowled in the Hastings Invitational Four last week against some stiff competition. The format was pretty tough, but still enjoyable, they report. On the first day they bowled nine games of five ends. The next day they played six more games of five ends. Altogether they won five games, drew three and had seven losses, coming in 7th out of 16.

Over the weekend the junior pairings of Pete and Paddy and Erika and Els bowled in the Raumati Bowling Club Junior 2-4-2 competition. Erika and Els qualified for the top eight, with Paddy and Pete qualifying for division 3. On Sunday, Erika and Els had a win and two losses giving them a final placing of 6th out if 32. Paddy & Pete had four wins and won division 3. Great bowling by both teams. Thanks Raumati Bowling Club for a great tournament.

We had a great view of the moon rising over the bay as play started at indoor bowls tonight. And the sparkle continued throughout the evening with some tight games and a delicious potluck dinner to follow. Sue topped the table on 23 points with Ali coming in second on 20 and Helen in third place on 19.
