Time for a shout-out to one of our longest-standing supporters of the trails and one of the most popular destinations on the Landscapes Ride, out on the Cape Coast in Te Awanga.

Tucked down a tree-lined driveway just off Clifton Road, and only a short detour from the trails, this much-loved winery, cellar door and restaurant is nestled amongst vines and olive trees.

Set within a gorgeous, shaded garden on the stunning Hawke's Bay coastline of Te Matau-a-Māui, it's easy to see why it's a favourite stop for riders, locals and visitors alike. In summer, enjoy the rustic setting among the olive trees with a gentle sea breeze as you dine alfresco. In winter, a roaring fire provides the perfect welcome to warm up.

With a seasonal menu inspired by the abundance of local produce, it's the ideal place to relax and while away an afternoon. Or, if you're lucky enough to be staying at the Homestead at Clearview, simply wander home after a memorable meal.

We all love our trails, tell us about your current favourite ride or walk. And how good have those sunrises been lately?

With so many people enjoying our trail network, it can get a little busy at times. When it does, it's important for everyone's enjoyment and safety that we all do our part to Share and Care, just like our friends at IWAY promote.

Remember, these are shared, two-way trails and pathways, and a little courtesy goes a long way. Well done if you:
- Keep left and avoid blocking the trail or pathway
- Slow down and warn others when passing
- Offer a friendly "hi" if you're running or ring your bell if you're riding

Dog owners, please remember that while dogs are welcome on some trails (not in protected wildlife areas), we recommend keeping on lead and under control. This is especially important in busy areas such as Marine Parade and Ahuriri, where it helps prevent accidents and keeps everyone safe.
And if you haven't noticed, those smiles can be infectious. Let's keep making our trails welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.

Who doesn’t enjoy heading out on a Friday night with friends? Well, last Friday, the Puketapu Night Run lit up the night. It was great to see the trails fully reopened and enjoyed by so many of all ages, for such a worthy cause.

🔓 How to Access a Locky Dock
You can unlock and lock a Locky Dock using:
1. The Bikeep App Download the Bikeep App and follow the instructions at www.lockydock.co.nz.
2. A Free Locky Dock Card Ask at any of the locations above for a free access card.
3. An RFID Card Use an RFID-enabled card from your wallet, such as a contactless bank card. Don't worry, no charges will be made – its free. Just remember to use the same card to unlock your bike when you return.

🚴‍♀️ How to Lock Your Bike:
1. Tap your card or use the app to unlock the dock.
2. Lift the pink locking arm.
3. Position your bike beside the dock.
4. Lower the arm and ensure it clicks securely into place.
🔋 How to Charge Your E-bike
1. Bring your own charger.
2. Unlock the dock and open the compartment at the base.
3. Plug your charger into the power outlet.
4. Place the charger unit inside the compartment and close the lid, leaving the charging cable connected to your bike.
5. Lock your bike as usual using the pink locking arm.
6. When you're ready to leave, simply reverse the process.

We have lift-off!
We’re delighted to be reopening this section of the Water Ride. From Friday, 31 July 2026, the Tūtaekurī stop bank section will fully reopen between Awatoto and Puketapu. The Expressway underpass near Guppy Road will also reopen, so the detour will no longer be required.
While the bridge isn't quite finished yet, we are grateful to the NZTA team and contractors for creating a safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists. Please remember that this is still an active work site. The trail will be fenced off, so do not enter the construction area and use caution at all times.
There may be occasional delays of 10 to 15 minutes when major work needs to be completed safely. Please follow all instructions from site staff.
Yes, that means the trails are fully open again (for a bit at least) – enjoy!

Ahhh, July's winter mood is certainly making an impression, with big swells, crisp mornings, and chilly nights.
Even when the viewing platform on Marine Parade is closed for safety reasons (during large swells), there's still plenty to see and enjoy on the trails. Just remember to wrap up warm!
For those keen on an adventure, the Puketapu Night Run is on this Friday, 31 July. This fundraising event for Puketapu School is the perfect excuse to get out of your comfort zone (off the couch!) and hit the trails running with your mates. Enjoy the Puketapu Loop, cross the new bridge, and support a great local cause, all while running through the night. What could be more fun?

HDC Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade
Dates: 15 July 2026 to May 2027
Location: East Clive, near Richmond
UPDATE: Richmond Rd fully closed to public, 10th-31st August. Trail on stopbank remains open for cyclists and pedestrians.
You'll notice a few changes between Clive and Black Bridge. Please be aware the automatic gates on the stop bank (instead of on-road trail detour), will close periodically during the day to allow construction vehicles to safely cross between work sites.
When the gates are closed:
• Please STOP and wait until they reopen
• Delays of up to 5 minutes can be expected
• Take extra care around the work area
• Follow all instructions from site staff and signage
