This legend just keeps on going! Let's all get behind Rocco's awesome efforts and support him in any way we can, whether that's donating, sharing the link around, or joining in for his final push on 12th September at McLean Park.

Our athletes had a ball of a time at our Squash Have a Go Day this afternoon. The wonderful Coach Eden from Squash Eastern Incorporated stepped us through all sorts of fun and helpful games and drills to sharpen our skills. We particularly enjoyed the "pancake" activity, which truly tested our reaction skills!
Superstar Sam also turned into a celebrity at the end of the session - watch this space to see his interview debut!
A big ngā mihi nui to Dave and the team at Hawke's Bay Squash Rackets Club for being excellent and accommodating hosts who made us feel very welcome.

💙 “Just come and have fun.”
That’s 17-year-old Amy’s advice to other young people who might be nervous about giving sport a go.
Through Disability Sport and Recreation Hawke’s Bay, Amy has found more than opportunities to swim and play boccia. She’s found friendship, confidence, community and a place where she can truly be herself. 🏊♀️🏅
Amy's already achieving big things and has plenty more goals ahead, but for her, the best part of sport is simple:
❤️ “I like to see all my friends, that’s the best part.”

ROCCO'S STAIR-ATHON --- 5000 STAIR STEPS!!
Rocco is a 9 year old boy with cerebral palsy. In May 2024, Rocco underwent SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) surgery in America. This enabled him to walk again without having to use a walker and he can now participate in sports such as basketball and the Weetbix Triathlon. He is currently able to walk without aides 🏆
Rocco has gone from strength to strength and embraces any challenge; he is a go-getter.
He is keen to raise funds for Disability Sport and Recreation Hawke's Bay and to do this, he has set himself the challenge of climbing 5000 stair steps in his ultra stair-athon! Funds raised will go to help get the Hawke's Bay Halberg team to the Halberg games in Auckland.
If funds allow, securing hire for a basketball facility, is also on the list; Rocco is a massive basketball nut!
With the help of his amazing family and support network, Rocco is aiming to 'step' the majority of the stair-athon challenge before the 12 of September. On the 12 of September, Rocco will complete his challenge of 5000 steps at Mclean Park with the support of the Sport and Recreation Hawkes Bay group present.
Please support this immense effort by sponsoring this incredible dude.
Go Rocco, you've got this!!

Wow! What an experience for our athletes over the weekend on the slopes of Whakapapa.
There was a flurry of highlights, including:
❄ Spending time together and seeing our athletes learn more about one another
❄ The multitude of smiles on Saturday that came from skiing successes, making new friends, having some friendly snowball fights
❄ Attempting to make a snowman and naming after Lachlan (one of our volunteers),
❄ Sledding
❄ Riding the gondola
Everyone worked so hard, even through the wet and cold weather that arrived later in the day.
We are so incredibly proud of all of our athletes for stepping out of their comfort zones and attempting new activities.
See you on the slopes again soon!
