Palmerston North downhill rider, Jonty Williamson has created history after claiming his sixth win of the season at the UCI MTB World Cup at Les Gets in France today.
The 17-year-old, who rides for the Yeti Fox Factory team, has wrapped up the junior men’s downhill title with two rounds remaining. In doing so, Williamson becomes the first New Zealand male to win a UCI Downhill World Series title in any grade.
Double downhill junior world champion Erice van Leuven won the junior women’s downhill series in 2024.
It proved another one-two finish for kiwis with Queenstown’s Malik Boatwright second, pipped by Williamson by just 0.236s after pushing on to the Hot Seat in the penultimate ride.

Nine New Zealand mountain bikers lie in the top 20 in respective overall standings going into the final European round of the UCI MTB World Series in Les Gets, in the Haute Savoie region of southeast France.
With 33 kiwi riders competing in France this weekend, they are headed by current junior men’s gravity series leader Jonty Williamson, the Yeti-fox rider from Manawatu who has chalked up five wins to date this season. Malik Boatwright (Continental Atherton) is third in the same category, with fellow Queenstown local, Indy Deavoll (Stoic Racing) fifth overall in junior women.
Best of the kiwi elites is two-time junior world championship medallist Sacha Earnest (Trek Unbroken), while Hawkes Bay’s Tyler Waite (Yeti-Fox) leads the kiwi men in the standings.

The is a bypass line for the steep turn just before the Corona/variant split.
Get up there and ride it, we need it to bed in with and school nats coming up.
