Train the muscle that makes hard things possible.

High Intensity training does more than build strength, fitness, and confidence — it teaches your brain how to lean into discomfort instead of backing away from it.

There’s a part of the brain called the Anterior Mid-Cingulate Cortex, linked with willpower, resilience, and doing the things you’d rather avoid. Research suggests it can grow when you repeatedly choose something difficult which you really don’t like or want to do!

Every hard exercise, every challenging last rep, every moment you keep going when your body and mind want to quit — that’s not just training. It’s practice that’s building the person who can do hard things.

Show up. Work hard. Get stronger — physically and mentally.

A recent study of 5,472 women (aged 63–99) found that higher muscular strength in woman is a significant predictor of longevity, independent of aerobic fitness or physical activity levels.

The highlights:
• 33–37% lower risk of death for those with the highest strength levels.
• It’s independent: the benefit holds even if you don't do much cardio or have a higher BMI.

The bottom line: It’s never too late to start resistance training.

Maintaining and improving muscle isn't just about fitness—it’s about staying independent and living longer.

Activity matters but the Intensity of effort matters more when it comes to improving your health, fitness and longevity.

Moving and being active is important, but if you are serious about significantly improving your health, fitness, and strength enabling you to live life well, then research shows that intensity of effort is the most important and modifiable factor when it comes to your exercise.

So next time you are going for a walk or doing cardio. Go faster or make it more challenging by going up the hill you avoid or do some high intensity interval training .

If doing weights, try a slightly heavier weight or do more reps and try get close to muscle failure.

And the answer is a resounding YES!

Besides the obvious reasons of accountability and safety, supervision really does matters because it’s proven to deliver better results.

A Southampton Solent University study found that six months of supervised resistance training improved older adults’ strength, body composition, function, and wellbeing. However, those who trained without supervision lost strength at the same rate as those who stopped completely. The evidence shows that direct supervision is crucial for effective strength training.

Another study split 36 young adults into supervised and unsupervised groups, both following identical eight-week workout routines. The supervised group received personal trainer guidance and feedback, while the unsupervised group only recorded attendance. Results showed supervised participants had greater muscle growth, strength gains, and adherence. The authors concluded that direct supervision, like that from personal trainers, leads to better outcomes for recreationally resistance-trained individuals, regardless of program design.

That’s why even our trainers have trainers!!
