Have a look at some of the cars already entered for Dad's Drags. You don't need a purpose-built race car or hundreds of horsepower - your everyday street car can be part of the action.

Dad's Drags puts cars into time brackets, so you'll be racing against cars running similar times to yours.

Win your bracket and you'll progress to the Dad's Drags final, where we switch to Dial Your Own (DYO) racing - and that's where consistency and a good reaction time can beat outright horsepower.

So don't worry if your car isn't the quickest.

You don't need to be fast to have a chance - and you definitely don't need to be fast to have fun!

NEVER BEEN DOWN THE DRAG STRIP BEFORE?

Perfect. Dad's Drags is a great place to start.

We know that lining up for your first ever pass can be a little daunting. Where do I go? How do I stage? What do all those lights mean? What happens when I get to the other end?

That's why Grant Benvenuti will be holding a beginners' driver meeting on the startline.

Grant is an experienced racer who has a knack for explaining things in a really simple, easy-to-understand way. He'll walk our first-time racers through the basics, show you how the lights work and where your car needs to be, and make sure you know what to expect before you make your first pass.

Don't be afraid to ask questions - that's exactly what he's there for.

You don't need to turn up already knowing how to drag race.

We'll show you.

So if you've always wanted to have a go but weren't quite sure where to start - this is your chance.

Bring your mate. Bring your son or daughter. Bring your wife or partner - for an extra $50, they can have a go too!

Dad's Drags allows two drivers to share the same car, so why keep all the fun to yourself?

And if you're thinking about handing the keys to the lady of the house, just be prepared for the possibility that she cuts a better reaction time than you do!

The additional driver cost is $20, plus a $30 Competition Day Licence if they don't already hold an NZDRA licence. They'll need to meet the same requirements as the main driver and sign up at registration on the morning.

Whether it's their first time down the strip or they've raced before, it's going to be an unforgettable day out!
