Youth and Elite Oceania Invitational

Location:
Apia, Samoa

Indicative Travel Dates:
5–13 September 2026 (subject to final travel schedule)

Closing Date for applications:

Overview:

Selected athletes and coaches will join an invitational team at the 2026 Youth and Elite Oceania Invitational Boxing Championships, Samoa. Athletes are expected to prepare professionally, uphold Boxing NZ’s values, and compete in accordance with World Boxing rules and Boxing New Zealand team standards throughout the preparation, travel, and competition period.

This event is not funded and 100% of the costs will be the responsibility of the individual. Boxing New Zealand will coordinate flights and accommodation but will invoice prior to departure. This invoice must be paid in full before a boxer or coach departs or their flights will be cancelled.

2 x coaches will be appointed for this event and must be registered with the NZ Boxing Coaches Association.

Selection Process;

Selection is open to Youth and Elite athletes across all divisions.

The Selection Panel (Sam Watt, Jake Rapira, Paul McSharry & Russell Newton) will prioritise athletes based on:

Performance and placing at the 2025 New Zealand Championships.
Performance and placing at the 2026 South Island, North Island and NZ Golden Gloves events in the open divisions.
Demonstrated international competitiveness and readiness.
Any other open category success we believe relevant

Where required, the Selection Panel may also consider other relevant performance information to ensure the strongest possible team is selected.

Eligibility Requirements;

Applicants must:

Be a current registered member of Boxing New Zealand.
Be eligible to represent New Zealand.
Hold a current NZ passport valid for international travel.
Meet all World Boxing eligibility requirements.
Be available for the full duration of the tour, including any pre-departure activities.
Agree to comply with Boxing NZ's Code of Conduct, Team Membership Agreement, and Integrity requirements.

As the 2026 Commonwealth Games comes to a close, Boxing NZ extends its heartfelt congratulations to all of our athletes and coaches who represented Aotearoa New Zealand with pride.

While not every result went our way, our athletes held their own against the best in the Commonwealth. I'm sure, they all took away valuable lessons from every contest that will help shape their futures. What an opportunity!

To our athletes, coaches, support staff, families, and everyone who stood behind this campaign—thank you. Your continued commitment strengthens our sport.

Our Morgan didn't get the W whānau. But ohhhweee did she put on a show!

What a performance against the number 2 boxer in the world! Loss by split decision! If you take away the point deduction, two judges gave the bout to Morgan on the cards! Over the World Number 2. The division is on alert!
