Come and join us on the 5th September for our Past Presidents Summer Opening, kindly sponsored by FAR NORTH SOLAR SYSTEMS

On Saturday 15th August, we held our re-scheduled Patrons’ A/C Triples, this was kindly sponsored by Marty Doak, patron of our bowling club and Russell Hockley, patron of the Far North RSA, we thank them.

We had visiting teams from Coopers Beach, Church Road and Houhora as well as our own members and fielded 14 teams in all. It was a somewhat damp day, but judging from the laughter and banter the bowlers had a great time.

Our sponsors, Marty and Russell presented the prizes to the winners, who were:

Thursday Roll-up, everyone welcome, you don’t need to be a member. Coaching given to non-bowlers. Come and have fun, names in by 12 midday $5 entry.

Anne and Joanne are representing Bowls Far North in the Champ of Champions Pairs at the Nationals in Hastings this week (14th-16th). Go well ladies, you can do it!

On Saturday 8th August, we held our Maugham Memorial Winter Closing along with the opening of our new green. The tournament was kindly sponsored by the Maugham family, (Margaret and Lloyd Matthews and Kevin Briscoe).

Our president, Lloyd Matthews welcomed Jill Frazer, president of Bowls Far North and visiting teams from Hikurangi, Kohukohu, Opononi, Kaikohe, Okaihau, Russell, Kerikeri, Coopers Beach, Houhora, Kaitaia Church Road and our own members. He then went on to thank everyone who helped make the new green a reality and especially for the support received from the Far North (Kaitaia) RSA. Jill Frazer then spoke on behalf of the Centre, followed by Lillian Wells on behalf of the RSA, Russell Hockley then blessed the green with a karakia. The life members who were present lined up to open the green, with Bruce Bird cutting the ribbon, Marty Doak delivering the kitty and Graham Hunt delivering the first bowl.

Once the green was officially opened, it was time to play bowls. There were 20 teams competing in 3 bowl triples with 5 games of 8 ends. The weather may have been a bit cold and a bit windy but everyone seemed to enjoy playing on the new green.

Today a impromptu roll-up was held to try out our new green. Lloyd welcomed everyone, then called on Lillian to bless the green. Margaret rolled the first kitty and Lloyd rolled the first bowl.

It’s coming along nicely

The weather’s been kind and the contractors have been able to make fantastic progress with the laying of our new carpet surface. This is the underlay going down, so it’s not far away now.
