What a storm!!! ⛈️

Thank you to all those who have been in touch, and to our hunt clients for their understanding. ❤️🦌

We have had 406mm of rainfall since Monday night. 😳

Due to current weather conditions on the station, our hunting operations have closed until further notice. The station is currently inaccessible due to storm damage on the valley road, as well as track damage/slips on and around the station.

This will not be a quick fix - we will keep you updated as the situation becomes more visible. We need to ensure the safety is there for ourselves and others visiting.

Take care out there - especially to those in the Kaikoura region who have been affected with this storm. ⛈️

Honouring the Harvest 🙌

For many of our guests, visiting Puhi Peaks is a journey of firsts. We were privileged to introduce a Singaporean doctor to the reality of ethical, free-range hunting—including the processing skills that follow a successful harvest.

Watching and learning how to skin and dress an animal for the first time connects you to your food in a way a supermarket shelf never can. It’s all about respect for the animal, learning lifelong skills, and securing fresh, clean, wild meat to nourish the family.

A wonderful educational experience and some incredible food to take home!

There is nothing quite like the pride of your first hunt. 🦌

We were recently sent this wonderful photo from one of our guests. This is young Blake with his first deer, taken right here at Puhi Peaks - here on a grandfather/son/grandsons hunt. His family has put together this incredible box frame as a keepsake, complete with the bullet and casing from the day.

Seeing the next generation develop a respect for the land and the hunt is what it’s all about. This is a memory Blake will be able to look back on for a lifetime.

Welcome to the hunting community, Blake!

How did you celebrate your first hunt?

It’s not just about the hunting - it’s the location, the views, the moments to unwind.

A stunning photo taken by a recent guest to the station - taken in the evening looking over our new cabin, to the ranges behind ❤️

There is nothing quite like passing on the passion for the hills to the next generation. 🏁
We recently hosted a fantastic father and son duo for their first Puhi Peaks Hunting experience. They kicked things off with a guided hunt to get the lay of the land, taking home a red hind, an Arapawa ewe, and a goat. After soaking up the "world-class views" and some expert tips from our hunt guide Saxon Ferris, they headed out to tackle the unguided block on their own—and successfully secured another deer!
From guided mentorship to the challenge of a solo mission, it was an all-around incredible trip.
We’re stoked to hear you’ll be back to tackle these peaks again! 🏔️🦌

The Off The Rails hunting crew is back and going strong! Final day of hunting for them to get some more venison in the freezer. Meanwhile, some of the crew are hard at work processing the deer and sheep they’ve caught so far.
Good times with our Northland hunting mates. 🦌👍

Being a steward of this land means developing a deep respect for the animals that call it home. Sometimes, that respect turns into a bit of a special bond. This wild fallow doe has become part of the furniture around here, even stopping by for a hand-fed snack…with a couple of more wary extended family members in tow.

For us, hunting and conservation go hand-in-hand with a genuine love for the wild. It’s a privilege to share the mountain with them.

There’ll be no hunting today! Unless hunting water is on the agenda! 💦
