Hockey Southland Wolves and Foxes

Yesterday while the wolves rested, the foxes came out to battle the Canterbury women. In some more warm settled wellington weather, the woman battled against a well prepared and hungary canatubury squad, but the southern ladies,with as much hunger fought a very hard 1st half unfortunatly conceeding an unfortunate goal in the 23rd minute, which would evetually be the sealing fate of the score. An absoloute on the line gutsy effort by the southern ladies showing a class above, never give up attitute right to the final whistle, pressuring cantabury right down to the last seconds, trying for that final goal that sat just out of reach. Even though the was a few disapointed hung heads, hold your head high ladies you did us proud and showed the ticka that makes you southlanders through and through. Today the ladies will be facing neighbouring provence central otago. Bring the pain ladies. Onwards and upwards

Today the wolves played Counties Manakau in an unusually hot windless wellington weather making playing conditions challanging for both the southland lads and counties. The lads came out guns blazing putting early pressure on counties who also retaliated with a goal of their own to be 1-1 at half time. A determined southland fired back into it after halftime drumming in another pc shot to make it 2-1. Counties however were not done sinking a post pinging goal to tie it up with ten to go . In a last ditch effort counties pulled their keeper to take the attacking advantage, which was never capitalised on as southland fought their way back to take one more sealing the deal at 3-2. We'll done lads a hard fought battle by a team of lads showing alot of heart,sweat and guts! A well deserved rest day for the wolves tomorrow as the foxes again will be back in the fight playing against Canterbury looking for a spot in the semis good luck ladies
