Stratford Scrappers 2026/2027 Squad

The Stratford Scrappers are pleased to announce their Superstock squad for the upcoming 2026/2027 speedway season.

Returning to lead the Scrappers are team managers Paul Johnson and Mike Fale, with Phil Gargan joining the management group as team assistant.

The 2026/2027 Stratford Scrappers squad is:

It is an exciting mix of drivers that gives the Scrappers plenty of options as preparations begin for the season ahead.

Congratulations to all nine drivers on their selection into the squad. We look forward to seeing the team come together over the coming months as the Stratford Scrappers prepare to represent Stratford during the 2026/2027 season.

Unfortunately we couldn't attend the final meeting at Stratford Speedway, with the meeting starting at 5pm and rugby finishing at 4.30pm in Rahotu, it just wasn't possible to be able to get there with the car, and the driver.

Overall, this season was a mixed bag for us, with a week of good results, then two weeks of bad luck!

Qualifying at 240s was a highlight, but the weather put a quick stop to that, and unfortunately not being able to attend finals the following week was gut wrenching for us.

Missing out on qualifying for NZ's by 5 points, then missing out through the repo by a couple of placings, and a tier 2 win getting taken off of Matthew put an end to our championship run for the 25/26 season.

We wish to thank all of our supporters, it has been awesome to see the 307s merch around this season, I even saw some 307k merch at some stage!

Today we farewell a chassis that holds a lot of memories for Matthew, and our crew.

This car saw a lot of “firsts” for Matthew.

- first chequered flag
- first teams race
- first Auckland Teams Nationals title
- first podium at ENZED Superstock Teams Champs
- first time qualifying at a New Zealand title

The list goes on!

This chassis was a key point in Matthew Superstock career, with a lot of lessons learnt and achievements made.

We loved this chassis, and we hope its new owner loves it too! 🥺

On the racing front for us, it’s been extremely quiet.
We’ve been super busy with work, and now rugby.

Hopefully we’ll be at Stratford Speedway on the 11th of April 🙌🏼

07/02/26 & 08/02/26 - ENZED Superstock Teams Champs

WOW, what a weekend Superstock Teams Champs was for 2026.

With a massive couple of weeks prepping before hand, the team were rearing to go come Friday night.

To set the scene, we rolled up Speedway Garage Palmerston North on Friday night to have the cars on display.
We then headed over the road to Holy Smoke for dinner with team.

QUALIFYING

Saturday at The Square for scrutineering was as busy as usual, merch was flying out the door (quite literally) and it was awesome to see everyone coming down to check out the cars.

Race 1 against Great British Lions 🏁

Matthew was grid two for this race, and was given a running role for the first time in teams.
Safe to say he did amazing, as did all the boys. The team work was next level, and for Matthew to get the flag was even better!

Race 2 against the Hawkes Bay Hawkeyes 🏁

Matthew was grid four for this race, back into his 'safe space' blocking. On form as always, we took the win for this race!

Off to the semis we go! 👊🏼

We were lucky and didn't have much damage after Qualifying, so it was a relatively smooth morning on Sunday for us.
Big thanks to Central House Movers for their workshop & facilities on Sunday.

FINALS

We sailed through scrutineering, however we did notice a slight issue with the fuel. One of our crew members noticed we were running a stockcar fuel tank!
We had been wondering why the car was chewing through some fuel, however it wasn't - the fuel tank was just too small 🤣

Semi Finals against the Rotorua Rebels 🏁

Matthew went back into a running role this race and took the win!
Some awesome team work went on out there, super proud of the boys after this one.

Finals against the Gisborne Giants 🥈

Matthew did a bit of running and blocking this race, it looked chaotic out there from a spectators POV and we thought the team did extremely well.

Coming away with second is always a tough one, however being a step higher than last year in a win in our eyes.

Overall, I am extremely proud of Matthew for how he raced and held his head high all weekend.
He got thrown a lot of new challenges and he absolutely nailed it! I'm sure everyone would agree with me here.

To our team mates, Blair, Blayke, Brad, Brodie & Tyler, and our managers, Mike & Paul, thank you for backing us all weekend, your encouragement and advice is appreciated.

What does the rest of the season look like for us?
Good question.

With rugby starting up and a few other commitments over the next few weeks, we will look to make a few appearances locally (Stratford or Palmerston North) but it will be a short notice 😅

Matthew & I would like to thank all of our crew for their hard work over the past 6 weeks with racing, we've been here there and everywhere and appreciate your time and efforts.
